Hello

Previously had a Panasonic TV + Beam (surrounds and sub) + Apple TV. Getting 5.1 no issues.

New Samsung OLED and Apple TV will not output anything other than Stereo PCM.

Firestick and Built in Apps showing 5.1 so it’s specific to Apple TV.

Rebooted everything, reseated HDMI cable to everything. Done new TV setup on Sonos App.

Not really sure where to go next? 
 

Tried forcing 5.1 on Apple TV but I then get dialogue out of the surrounds! 


 

What model tv? What tv sound settings have you tried? You may need to set it to passthrough?

Samsung S90D 65 inch

TV is set on Auto as pass through is greyed out.

Beam is definitely in the HDMI EARC port

Thanks for your post!

Sorry to hear of this issue you are having with only getting stereo audio from your Apple TV.

As you get 5.1 from another external device, we know the TV settings are likely correct and that the TV does support passing surround though. The only possible source of the problem is the Apple TV and it’s settings.

Could you please post a screenshot of your Apple TV’s audio settings? Thanks. Please also test with various content and sources (apps) on the Apple TV, just in case it is due to the content and not the player.


Quick update on this

Its definitely specific to the ATV, everything via a Firestick plays 5.1.

I am using Netflix and Plex on both Firestick and ATV.

On the Firestick both Plex and Netflix do 5.1 for everything.

On the ATV, I get 5.1 for ‘some’ Netflix content but not others, despite the Same content doing 5.1 on the Firestick. I get no 5.1 (Stereo PCM) on all Plex content via the ATV despite the Same content doing 5.1 via the Firestick.

Odd as nothing has changed other than moving from a Panasonic to a Samsung TV!

In that case, all your settings are correct.

If the TV is the only thing that has changed, you may want to ask Samsung which formats the TV will pass-through from an external device, and which ones it will not.

I also recommend checking for TV software updates.
