Hi there,
I’ve got a Sonos Amp connected to a computer. I use it more like a line-in and less like a TV. Ok, it’s almost completely unlike a TV, in fact. :)
It’d be nice to treat this more like a line-in:
- Specify an auto-play volume level.
- Allow playback to other speakers while using the Amp to play something different. (naturally, some added delay is expected here, similar to the “Group Delay” which exists today.)
- Rename the input to something other than “TV” (this has been brought up a handful of times over the years) This one seems like it’d be an easy addition and would make the whole experience a lot less confusing.
Naturally, I would not like the analog line-in feature of added latency***. 😉
I understand this is an atypical use-case for Sonos speakers, but wanted to bring it up anyway to see what others thought.
(***) On the topic of latency, what’s the expected added latency for HDMI audio input? It’s low enough to be totally fine in isolation, but if I use the speakers powered by the Sonos Amp at the same time as my powered monitors the dissonance is somewhat jarring. Measuring it (roughly) shows ~27ms offset between my monitors and my Sonos-powered-speakers. About 9ms for the monitors and 36ms for the Sonos Amp. Is that expected? I tried fiddling with the Group Delay, but it has no effect on this -- only on other grouped speakers, as expected.
