Hi there,

I’ve got a Sonos Amp connected to a computer. I use it more like a line-in and less like a TV. Ok, it’s almost completely unlike a TV, in fact. :)

It’d be nice to treat this more like a line-in:

  • Specify an auto-play volume level.
  • Allow playback to other speakers while using the Amp to play something different. (naturally, some added delay is expected here, similar to the “Group Delay” which exists today.)
  • Rename the input to something other than “TV” (this has been brought up a handful of times over the years) This one seems like it’d be an easy addition and would make the whole experience a lot less confusing.

Naturally, I would not like the analog line-in feature of added latency***. 😉

I understand this is an atypical use-case for Sonos speakers, but wanted to bring it up anyway to see what others thought.

(***) On the topic of latency, what’s the expected added latency for HDMI audio input? It’s low enough to be totally fine in isolation, but if I use the speakers powered by the Sonos Amp at the same time as my powered monitors the dissonance is somewhat jarring. Measuring it (roughly) shows ~27ms offset between my monitors and my Sonos-powered-speakers. About 9ms for the monitors and 36ms for the Sonos Amp. Is that expected? I tried fiddling with the Group Delay, but it has no effect on this -- only on other grouped speakers, as expected.

Hi @wootsuit

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

wootsuit,

The audio latency that you have observed is expected. The latency for Line-In is 75ms.
