Hey Community, I’m hoping you can help me figure out a solution to a problem I’m having getting any audio at all to come through my SONOS home theater system when I switch over to use one of our gaming systems. I have a home theater system in place that includes as Arc, two Play Ones as surrounds and a Gen 4 sub. That is all connected to my Epson LS12000 projector and I use an AppleTV 4K for streaming. That all works great. However, when I manually unplug the AppleTV from the projector and plug in a gaming system instead, I’m able to get the picture but no sound. I have no clue why. I’ve read pretty well every thread I can find that approaches this area, but haven’t found an exact match or developed a better understanding of the context of the situation. If anyone can help explain it to me, I’d be very appreciative of that!
What model gaming system? What audio format is it transmitting?
It is a PS5. I’m not certain which audio format we have it set to, though I’m pretty sure we’ve cycled through options (Dolby, DTS and PCM). I didn’t specify, but I have had this full system in place for about a year now. We attempted this setup back then and had no luck. I eventually got frustrated and gave up. My kids have recently revived this request and I thought I’d start this time by seeking advice before banging my head against the wall.
I got home and checked the wires. Arc is going into the eArc port (HDMI 2) on the projector, PS5 into the other HDMI port (HDMI 1). Both cables involved are HDMI 2.1. And again, there’s no difficulty getting the picture. That comes through fine, it’s purely the audio. It’s detecting the soundbar in the PS5 settings, but no sound is coming out of anything.
Since you only have a single HDMI input on the projector, a HDMI switcher would be a solution, so you do not have to swap the cable between devices all the time.
I'm don't sure if it occurs with the HDMI but they have to do a handshake with the specs of the TV or similar but not always they sync the information very well so it could be this and the solution can be to only pass the audio in pcm but put this adjust before you plug the PS5 to the projector.
