use single PLAY:3 as a rear speaker?
I have the Playbar as by front speakers and was wondering if I can add a single Play:3 speaker in the rear to serve as a rear channel?

Short answer is no, you need two speakers left and right.

Short answer is no, you need two speakers left and right.
It isn't rear, it is rear surround hence the need for two. And two play 1s are just as good in that role if you want to release the 3 for another room.
