I find it is impossible in practice to use the Beam (Gen 1) connected to my recently purchased LG OLED TV through the ARC socket.

If I want to switch to Bluetooth headphones, the connection lasts for a few seconds before the Beam snatches it back. If, on the other hand, I connect my DVD player via HDMI, the TV tells me that I cannot use the ARC connection.

The answer has been to use the optical out connection and everything seems to work perfectly. I can leave them all connected and they function when required. However, I obviously lose some functionality although I have been able to make the volume controllable by the LG remote.

Do other people have the same experience? Who do I “blame” for this? Is it something about the Beam or is it that LG have not developed an ARC that functions with all possible connected equipment?

You need to turn off CEC (Simplink) before connecting your Bluetooth headphones.  In some implementations, CEC will default to the audio connected to ARC, regardless of the fact you have connected to Bluetooth.
