Single Era 100 with Ray soundbar

I bought a ray sounbar and sub mini as a set. I then felt like I missed the surrround experience as I have 4 overhead speakers from before but I don't have room for two speakers behind my couch so I only bought one era 100 speaker which I was told could sync with the ray sound bar and provide a rear feed. Is this incorrect? Do I need two speakers two have any chance of rear sound? Since the era 100 is sold as a single or a pair I thought it was good to go but I can't get it to sync with the ray soundbar for tv/movies.

This would be incorrect. First, you need two speakers to act as surrounds, which would then be ‘in sync’ with the Ray. With a single speaker, you can set it up in a second ‘room’ in the Sonos software, which will be in sync when streaming music, but slightly delayed when playing the Ray’s TV (optical) input.

Hi,

When you say slightly delayed, how slightly? Is it very noticeable when watching tv?  I have a small room that is probably not big enough for 2 speakers so wanted to ask before buying the Ray as I already have the Era100

Thanks

The minimum delay would be 75ms. Note that a single 100 cannot be “Bonded” to RAY as a surround speaker. The two surrounds must be identical models and Bonded to RAY. The single 100 will not provide surround audio. For many listeners the 75ms delay for a Room Grouped with RAY when RAY is playing TV is “tragic”, other listeners might not care. When playing a music source all Grouped Rooms will be time aligned.

Ok, thanks for that.

Just to confirm, if I have the Ray and one 100 era in the same room, can I link them together to play the same tv audio. Not surround, just the same audio. Is that where the delay would be?

Yes, there will be a latency for the Grouped 100. At the potential cost of some lip sync you can fuss with RAY’s TV Dialog Sync. No guarantee this will workout well for you.
