Good evening,

I am looking at buying a new tv stand and the one I am looking at has a rectangle compartment that is the perfect size for the playbar, aesthetically I think that this would look awesome, but I just want to know if it would affect the sound at all? I am not sure if it matters but I am also running a sub and 2 play 1's all connected to the sound bar.

If you're not sure what I mean with regards to the placement of the playbar in the tv stand I have put a link to it below.

Highly non recommended. If you look at the the image of the speakers in the Playbar at:

you'll see that there are speakers pointing up at a 45 degree angle, as well as speakers that point out the side. Putting any surfaces in the way of the sound coming from those speakers would make it not function very well. I don't think you'd like the sound it generated in such an enclosure.
Thank you for the quick reply, don't think I will get it. I still want to find a way of moving the sound bar away from the base of my tv (I only want the tv on the tv stand) and I don't have the option of wall mounting it, but this is not the answer. Thanks again.
There is stand which mounts the Playbar the same as if its hung on a wall. Only criticism of the cabinet is the bottom area for other equipment is not very deep, for me its not an issue as I only now have an Apple TV attached to the TV, everything else is streamed locally or from the Internet- box count 1 (very small).

This is interesting. My playbar is sitting on top of the mantel on top of the fireplace. I've always been happy with the sound, but never really heard it in a different location. The way the room is laid out, there really isn't a different option. I may experiment a little and see if raising it up slightly with some hockey pucks or something may improve the sound at all.

That said, I still would agree regarding the use of OPs tv stand. I was thinking in terms of the location of the speaker being way too low to the ground.
I used to have an older Sony rear projection TV, with it's own stand, where there really was no place for the Playbar. I went to a local plexiglass fabrication store, and had them create a stand for the Playbar that sat on top of the TV. Front was the front edge of the screen, but the back "legs" had to extend down with the dropping back of the TV casing. I used that for a couple of years with great effect, before I ended up getting a "flatscreen" replacement, which didn't have it's own base. That's when i got the IKEA cabinet, and a few shelves that sit on it to raise the TV up enough to clear the Playbar. So, having heard both "above" and "below" from the Playbar, I can't say that there's much difference. Sitting on the mantel might be fine.
Thanks Bruce.

Have you considered the Playbase then? It would keep the sound "out" of the boxes, and it has a very low profile.
