I ran Advanced Tuning on my Sonos Beam Gen 2 + Sonos Era 100 setup today. It changes the EQ quite dramatically. It is a very noticeable change and the sound becomes more balanced and better.

The problem is that there is no change in the volume of the side firing speakers at all. When playing 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos test tones, the side channel is simulated through the sound output from the side firing of the soundbar and rear speakers, but the sound output from the side firing speakers is so small that it actually feels like 5.1.4.

In order to feel like 7.1.4, the volume balance of the side firing speakers and the rear speakers should be adjusted by TruePlay, but the current TruePlay technology does NOT change the volume of the side firing speakers.

Ideally, TruePlay would measure the distance between the soundbar and the rear speakers, and the farther away they are, the stronger the output of the side firing speakers should be, and the closer they are, the weaker the output of the side firing speakers should be.

Hi @Blue Windy

Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with the side-channels after TruePlay Tuning.

Please be aware that TruePlay Tuning is not expected to adjust the volumes of the various channels. You can find a technical explanation of what it is that TruePlay Tuning does in our TruePlay Spectral Correction blog.

Please also know that attempts to troubleshoot or calibrate a Sonos soundbar with channel map tracks will provide a misleading understanding of the engineering behind the Sonos audio experience. Atmos soundbars render and deliver those channels in direct, indirect (reflected), and virtualized ways. We recommend evaluating the Sonos Atmos audio experience using the kind of content you would be listening to in your day to day life, rather than a test-tone video.

You can adjust the relative level of the surround channels by adjusting the TV Level setting in the room’s surround settings: Settings icon » nroom with Beam 2] » Surround Audio » TV Level. The setting is not independent from the rear channels, however.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Blue Windy

You can adjust the relative level of the surround channels by adjusting the TV Level setting in the room’s surround settings: Settings icon » croom with Beam 2] » Surround Audio » TV Level. The setting is not independent from the rear channels, however.

I hope this helps.

This option only adjusts the volume of the rear speakers and does NOT affect the side firing speakers.

Hi @Blue Windy

My apologies - we did in fact just change the behaviour of the TV Level setting so that it no longer affected all channels that are not the front channels, due to feedback given regarding the behaviour of the setting. I was thinking of the old behaviour of the TV Level adjustment in my previous post.

Which leaves us with the question of how to adjust the side-channels: it is not possible, at present. I shall tag this thread as a feature request to have a setting introduced to the Sonos app that provides a method of adjusting the level of the side channels independently. Thanks for the feedback!

My recommendation to not use a test-tone video stands.

Hi @Blue Windy

introduced to the Sonos app that provides a method of adjusting the level of the side channels independently.

That's it! That's exactly what I wanted. Thank you.

I also would like to be able to boost side firing speakers on my arc, my setup is a corner setup  that I understand is not optimal , independent  left and right  levels  would be awesome for side firing and rear surrounds. arc, 2 sl1s, sub 3 setup here. my issue is left side side firing speaker need to be just a bit louder to balance sound stage , tried some creative true play maneuvers  but is always the weak spot, If I could boost both side firing speakers at a minimum would help..thanks for the help
