When connecting headphones via usb-c to my iPhone with usb-c I notice that the volume is a little lower than usual, even at the same levels as I usually use via bluetooth.

When I open the Sonos app, and see the status of the headphones, I notice that the volume level of the headphones in the Sonos app is 2, and when I even try to raise it by sliding manually, the volume goes up to too high levels just by going up only one or two volume levels.

The volume control of the device, ie with the iPhone buttons I understand that it is an independent control and therefore does not affect the volume displayed in the Sonos app.

How would I go about listening through the usb-c cable to enjoy lossless audio without dying in the attempt or going deaf.

It is super dangerous that the sound volume makes such drastic jumps and that the control is not consistent between the app and the volume of the device.

Sorry to hear you made such a bad experience. I tried to reproduce this, but wasn’t able to do so.
I just suppose, that your phone volume level was set very high before connecting Ace via cable.
You can control volume on both sides… Ace Hardware Button (or Sonos App) and iPhone hardware buttons.

Both should sync each other when using one of them.
So I just can imagine, that you started controlling volume on the phone (where is was set quite high) though Sonos app was showing a lower level. But imo directly after using the phone button Sonos app volume slider should have synced.

Not sure at all and just my suspicion.

Thanks for your answer @Schlumpf

No, I have already tried different situations:

Lowering the volume of my phone to the minimum, and the volume of the headphones in the Sonos app to the minimum, if I turn up the volume on the device, the volume is very low but the dB indicator of the iPhone shows high levels even if it is not what is replicated in the audio output.

As soon as I touch the volume slider of the Sonos app, the volume I hear in the headphones is very, very high.

I tried disconnecting the usb-c cable, turning the volume up to 100% in the Sonos app, and turning the volume down on the device, but once the cable is connected, the volume control in the Sonos app goes back to levels 2 or 3 and I have the same problem again.

This is what I could find, but it does not say anything specific about the volume over usb-c to usb-c connection.

@aqvdo

That‘s quite strange imho. As said I can’t reproduce the issue. Did you try a different app for audio output? Maybe someone else on the forum can give further advice.

I'm sorry to hear this, but I'm having exactly the same problem, something extra that happens to me that you didn't mention, is that on most occasions, when I try to manipulate the volume from the Sonos app, apart from the fact that rarely what you mention happens to me, what happens to me the most, is that the volume goes crazy and starts to go up and down in a very erratic way, obviously automatically and I simply can't control it anymore
