Where are the Sonos Ace release notes? I keep getting firmware updates but no release notes in the app or the website from what I can tell.

Sonos doesn't do Ace release notes. It's frustrating  but  I'm told through customer support that they can't effectively translate the technical details of the tweaks in a way that we'd appreciate. I'm also told they're still working on getting TrueCinema ready to roll out, at some point.

Ugh that’s about what I expected and sounds like a canned response from Sonos as even some high-level notes like “Fixed static sounds” would be helpful. Really regretting my purchase of the Ace and it’s convinced me to not upgrade my Sonos home sound systems.

I'm also told they're still working on getting TrueCinema ready to roll out, at some point.

They will probably be on Ace gen 2 before true cinema is ready.

Agreed release notes would be nice, but the absence of these do not make me regret buying an Ace. Why would it?

Simply because it continues to show lack of good faith from Sonos. After the bungled app update they had committed to additional transparency and communication. That app launch coincided with the Ace release, which one would assume would mean that clear communication would extend to this product line. I can only assume there is at least one product manager assigned to the Ace line who should be able to articulate what work is being done on the product via each iterative software/firmware update.

With this lack of the most basic of communications around product lifecycle development, it’s clear that Sonos is still yet not able to make their commitment to their customers on clear communication.

May be best to put it this way - my litter box has release notes - my $400+ headphones do not.

Does @Sonos support monitor these forums? Any chance we will ever see release notes?

This is a users community, for users to help other users.  Sonos does moderation, and sometimes the mods comment, but that is not their primary function.

I bought the Sonos Ace at launch to use with my TV via the Sonos Beam 2. To this day, about 9 months later: I'm still experiencing occasional audio interruptions. True Cinema isn't here, nor does it seem to be expected.

It was announced as a major revolution that would be spectacular in all the product previews and reviews. We trust Sonos, and 9 months later we still have no sign of True Cinema, and I doubt it will ever arrive. It seems they're just waiting for time to pass before it's forgotten, or better yet, they're leaving it for a Sonos Ace 2.

At this point, if it never arrives, for my part, it will be the last Sonos product I've ever bought (of a few). What's more, if True Cinema never arrives, we, as users, should file a joint lawsuit against Sonos for false advertising. The launch price wasn't cheap, leaving us users who trust them in the lurch.

Oh thee of little faith...

Sorry, the support line from SONOS reflects their attitude “can't effectively translate the technical details of the tweaks in a way that we'd appreciate”

  • Release notes are not about marketing but documenting what has changed
  • Let the consumer be the judge if they can appreciate the release notes. Keeping in mind we are your customers and not your 5 year old child.
  • Nobody would object to have a release note summary and a technical version

New management, no changes :-(

Are there any updates? I use my headphones very rarely and just did again today for the first time in maybe 3 or more months. I search for updates, but it stays on “searching for updates” forever and not finding anything (I guess).

Which is the latest firmware and is there another way of getting it than searching in the  Sonos app?

Lol no. They can’t even give us release notes, let alone another firmware OTA method.

Been a month, 750 views, and still no changes. Incredible.

Let us try a new approach.

Disappointed but not surprised with the Sonos Ace launch. While the hardware looks premium, it’s frustrating that Sonos still refuses to provide proper firmware release notes or software update changelogs—even with a flagship product like the Sonos Ace headphones. For years, the Sonos app has lacked transparency, and now they’re applying the same closed approach to the Sonos Ace over-ear headphones. If you’re trying to understand what’s actually improved or changed in a Sonos firmware update, good luck. No detailed version history, no audio tuning logs, no bug fix details. It’s a shame for users who care about performance and reliability.

If you’re searching for Sonos Ace review, Sonos Ace problems, Sonos Ace firmware, or Sonos Ace complaints, this thread is for you. We need Sonos to respect its community and treat power users seriously, especially when asking $450+ for premium headphones.

So be it, but where can we find the information we ask for?

Hi @Nate3D et al

The Release notes - Sonos system updates support page contains the release notes for both Sonos speakers/players firmware and Sonos Ace Headphones firmware, as highlighted below:

We have passed on feedback that the pages do not contain enough information, and we will do so again in our next staff meeting.

Please all note that updating Ace is a separate process from updating the system or the app and must be done independently in the app, while Ace is connected to the controller with Bluetooth, from the Ace settings page.

I hope this helps.

The natives are getting restless.…

I agree release notes or information updates would be helpful. Although If I was Sonos, I might be  leery of over promising only to be seen as under delivering.

>The natives are getting restless.…

The fact that I had to ring the SEO dinner bell to get ANY traction on this should highlight the core issue here. Tom Conrad had committed to more transparency with his customers to address the issues we had with Patrick. Tom has yet to deliver on this transparency in some very basic ways. I.e. product release notes. It’s insane to me as a product engineer that in 2025 there is a $400+ product that simply doesn’t provide release notes of any form. It wouldn’t be as annoying of an issue if Tom hadn’t explicitly committed to transparency then failed to deliver on same.

@GC3 you say you’re leery of them over-promising and seen as under-delivering - do you not see that’s exactly the situation we find ourselves in with this issue? They’ve already missed the mark and as a result we are pissed already as customers. It’s not that hard to see, or at least it really shouldn’t be this difficult.

@Corry P yeah those are still the app release notes - where can I find the firmware release notes that correspond to the firmware version displayed in the app for the Ace firmware?

Inside the red box in the screenshot I posted.

A single bullet point nested in the generic systems update page is not firmware release notes. And that doesn’t even actually address what changed in that firmware, just a note that the latest firmware is required. I’d expect that link to tell me what changes were made in the 3.1.6 firmware from the previous, that’s it. I fail to comprehend how this is a hard concept.

Searching that page for “Ace" results in two bullet points, neither of which touch on what changed in the firmware. Was active noise cancelling improved? Why did I start/stop hearing static? Why do we have to ask these questions on a forum rather than have this information provided as part of industry-standard release notes???

@Nate3D

Sonos’ release notes used to be worse before the app misstep. They’re pretty good now. I’m not sure your campaign will change things in terms of Ace release notes for now, no matter how annoying you might find it. They have your money.

Hi @Nate3D

It was spotted a week or two ago that some Android phones were not offering the AptX codec when they should have been, with Ace connected. Now, those phones do offer AptX as an option, when they should. It is as the notes say - we improved support for the AptX codec on selected phones.

I don’t know why you are hearing static - if rebooting the Headphones does not help, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.

@Rhonny yeah I think I have my answer at this point and I’ve got nothing left to say on this as Sonos has been pretty clear. Oh well, plenty of established manufacturers in the headphone market. Sorry to see Sonos miss the mark here; live and learn!

TrueCinema and other Ace updates (e.g. adaptive ANC) now available via today’s Sonos app and system updates…

EDIT: This detailed post went live just as I posted:
