Roam and Google Assistant

Hi, I have purchased a Roam today which is supposed to support Google Assistant. It is the Roam, not the Roam 2, and even has the ok Google branding on the box.

When I go into the Roam settings, under voice assistant, it only has 2 options, Sonos Voice Control and Alexa. The instructions say it should show me Google Assistant as well. Am I missing a step somewhere? Thanks

Ok, Sonos support helped me.  Seems to be a combination of a bug with Google Pixel and the fact that my assistant on my phone was actually set to Gemini not the old assistant.

Some weird bugs though, I eventually signed in on my work samsung galaxy which got the assistant option to appear, but I couldn’t actually add it as I don’t have my google account logged into the work phone.

Then on my pixel phone I changed the assistant back to the old assistant instead of gemini, went into the app settings and reset the app.  Still causing issues, but I also have the app on a pixel tablet, so did the same again on the tablet.

Then the Pixel phone still wouldn’t follow through all the steps to actually finish the google assistant set up, but it worked on the pixel tablet.

So, its finally working, thanks all for your assistance.

Have you checked to ensure the software running your Roam is up to date? Both your controller and your Roam?

I just checked my Roam (first gen), and all three services are showing up. I’m running on iOS, and the most recent version of Sonos software on the Roam and on iOS.

The other thing I’m wondering is if there’s any chance someone stuck a gen 2 in a gen 1 box, which seems odd, and extremely unusual. I’d definitely call Sonos Support directly to discuss it.

And, on reflection, I think it’s the newer physical devices that were affected by Google’s change to the requirements, and not the Roam gen 2, which lends emphasis to my first conclusion…

I’d probably also double check that your location is properly set on your account at www.sonos.com, I’m not sure how they check to ensure that the Google Assistant is ‘available’ to you. It might be a simple geo-location thing.

According to https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/set-up-the-google-assistant-with-a-voice-enabled-sonos-product is indeed not available on the Roam 2, but should work on Roam: “The Google Assistant is available on Sonos Arc, Beam (Gen 1 and 2), Move, One, and Roam.”

@Mr01 Is your country of residence set to the right country in your profile on the Sonos website?

Hi all, thanks for your help.  It is definitely the Roam.  My account had my address as United State and I have updated it, I am in Australia.  Australia is supported, but it didn’t fix it.  I am just working through Sonos Support now
