Unfortunately that fault has been there for over a year with no resolution by Sonos or Google, and it looks like it may not be resolved due to lack of cooperation between Sonos and Google.
It began about a year ago when Sonos speakers with Google Assistant began responding “Sorry, I didn’t understand” to any announcement in a routine to “device that started the routine”, the default. At that point it was still possible to make an announcement specifically to the Sonos speakers by name, but after a couple of months that stopped working too. Another symptom was that announcements made to all Google Assistant speakers in the home no longer came out of Sonos speakers. The ability to make an announcement to a specific Sonos speaker by name actually came back twice briefly over the next several months before going away again permanently. The same features continue to work fine on Google Home speakers and a variety of other non-Sonos Google Assistant speakers.
You probably shouldn’t waste further effort on it. I can assure you that I already tried every possible fix suggested without success, and sent diagnostic dumps to Sonos support with no response beyond “we’ll look into it”. I left one routine announcement in place so that I’ll notice if it ever gets fixed.
@Doug Ames,
Thank you for your response. I do appreciate it!!
Hopefully they get this fixed soon. I really enjoy this feature.
Though I do think the Google functions on Sonos have degraded (some of the news services in my good morning routine stopped working on Sonos only) , I can still make announcements over all speakers. Am I the only one?
