Hello all,

I have a problem with my setup.

I can’t say : “hey google, switch the music on the sonos FIVE in the room XXX”
Google says : “it’s not possible, I don”t understand”

If I say “hey google, say to everyone the dinner is ready”
google answer : “there is no other speaker configure”

But in the same time I can say : “hey google, play music in the room XXX” -→ it works

Other example, I say “hey google lunch music on deezer” → OK
but i cannot say : “hey google stop the music in 5min”, google answer “I can not do that because there is no media currently playing !” :o

I really don’t understand what is wrong…

Thanks by advanced for your help.

PS : sorry for my poor english

Sonos is not a Google speaker it’s a ‘Google Assistant enabled speaker’ (Sonos use their API to control the speaker playback) and it only has part of their overall functionality. Same thing applies to Amazon Alexa.

I believe you maybe asking some instructions/commands for some functionality that may not actually exist on third party devices. The Google Assistant instructions currently available are shown here:

Hello Ken,

Thanks for your answer.
So the functionnalities are very limited for the moment.

And if I add a google speaker to give an order on the other speaker (sonos and not sonos), do you think it could be OK ?

Yes, I (also) use both the Google Home mini and the Nest Display in my kitchen to play on my Sonos speakers, in fact you can set a Sonos speaker as it’s ‘default’ speaker for music audio playback.

Here are a few tips that may also assist if you encounter any issues:

Thanks for your help.
It’s very sad that Sonos can not access to the service in “native” like google speaker…

Do you know if in the futur it could be possible ?

It’s difficult to say, as neither Google, or Sonos, announce their development roadmap. I can say (because I do use both systems) that the Amazon Alexa integration, which started a year, or so, earlier has much more functionality, particularly around ‘speaker groups’ and ‘routines’ etc; so maybe it’s a case that Google may need to catch up. It’s a case of us all having to ‘wait and see’ what happens with each new update.🤞

One possible reason for the poor voice integration is that Sonos has sued Google for patent infringement and Google in turn has sued Sonos back. Sonos has also indicated that they will potentially sue Amazon. As a result improving the integration may not a priority for either company.

IME right now the best Google home experience is slaving Sonos to Google home devices.

“slaving Sonos to google home devices”.

Not sure to understand what do you mean and how to do that ?
I have to install some google speaker in the house and configure with a specific way my application (sonos and google home) ?

it’s been a while but iirc:

Set up Assistant with Sonos

then pick the default speaker for the home device
