I have the same issue, not being able to ask the Assistant to play Spotify - but I can ask for the weather and turn on/off lights.
All my Sonos speakers are identified as Audio in Google Home, so for me that is not the issue.

Earlier, a half a year back, I had to reset my network and it caused this issue. I noticed that sometimes the “Add Voice Assistant” → “Google Assistent” used English (Hi, I’m your Google Assistant) and sometime it used Swedish (I live in Sweden). It was all random, so I had to uninstall and reinstall until I hit the correct language (totally by chans). Also, this included another look of the “approve” screen (can’t remember how it looks now). Once I hit the Swedish route, I was able to play Spotify (I had to do this wilth all my 6 speakers...took hours!).

Now, I was forced to reset the network again and I’m once again struggling with Sonos. However, this time I never seem to win the lottery, all I get is English and I have spent days!

I’m almost about to throw these crappy Sonos speakers out the window and buy something better.

I did another try again today. I even removing my current home in Google Home (not because I believe this is a Google issue).

I have Swedish as language setting everywhere (Sonos account, Google Assistent, Google Home, Google Chrome...). Still I only get the "Hi, I'm your Google Assistent. I'm here to help you through out the day!".

Unlink Sonos, reset to factory, installing from another device, installing from another account, creating new Home, trying every different step Sonos recommend to solve the issue... Nothing helps! I can't understand why Sonos don't care about resolving this issue. Madness!

Since everything that used to work on my Sonos set (especially the good morning routine playing hews) up still works on my Nest Mini and this is a Google service, my conclusion is that Google abandoned Sonos (users).

Everything worked for me as well, until my network reset forced me into setting up the Sonos environment again 😞.

The important thing to remember is all the work being done by Sonos is recognition of the wake word. It then sends the rest of the command (except for SVC) to a server in the cloud for interpretation, and then executes what it receives back. That server that interprets the voice command, and sends back a digital command to your Sonos is owned by Google (or Amazon, in the case of Alexa), as are the commands sent back to your speakers.

The only aspect that Sonos controls is recognition of the wake word, sending the following data to the appropriate server, and executing the command it receives back from that server.
