We moderators of the community - @Corry P, @Jamie A & @Sotiris C. - wanted to take an opportunity to explain some of what is currently happening on the community.
First of all, we value all the feedback you are providing about the new Sonos App. We hear you. Feedback is coming in fast and thick, however - for understandable reasons - and to be frank, we are having trouble just keeping up with it all. For this reason, some topics that have not yet been replied to will go unanswered. We will, however, do our best to amalgamate some of these separate threads into bigger, related threads (such as one big thread for Alarm complaints and another for Queue Management) to be answered en-mass. The threads that are feedback on other aspects of the new app will be merged with this post.
Threads that describe issues such as missing rooms and app crashes (those that are not just feedback, in other words) will be answered, as will threads not relating to the new app in anyway, but these will take a bit longer than normal.
Please be aware that we are reading every post, we are recording and collating all feedback, and all of it will be passed over to the app software development team. In addition, we are doing our best to identify previously unidentified issues and report them to our technical teams.
We know many of you are concerned about certain features going missing, so let us take this opportunity to say that the following features are coming back:
Alarms management
Sleep timers
Queue management
Playlist editing
In addition and contrary to some speculation, local Music Library is not going anywhere, though SMBv1 support has been permanently removed. Local Music Library searching is something that is still being worked on.
We’d also like to thank everyone who has taken it upon themselves to help others here with their questions and concerns - we appreciate you all!
Thanks for listening - take care of yourselves, and each other.
Combined threads:
General feedback (not relating specifically to those below):
Queue management:
Alarms:
Playlists:
Music Library:
Sleep Timers:
Please note that there is an official statement that can be read here.

So is that the S1 app made by Sonos if I were to download it I the Apple App Store?
It won’t work for your One, One SL, or Beam… It’s the app for old Sonos kit only, like your Play:1.
Thank you very much. I sort of thought that right after I sent the question out. I guess I’ll continue to use the SonoPad app. SonoPad is not perfect either, it does most of what the old Sonos app used to do, except it doesn’t have an option to loop back (replay) one song. I’m not sure if it requires an Internet connection like mentioned above, but I have an email out to the Developer, Stefan. When I’m done here, I might just shut off my modem and give it a try. I did this once with the Sonos app. All my music is locally sitting on my NAS drive.

Yes, it does work okay without an internet connect. I hear a piano piece playing right now and no one is sitting in front of my piano. So that’s good to know.
Can you please add back the functionality of when you open a playlist that the song that is playing is highlighted and justifies to the top of the page.
If there is a 1000 song playlist it takes forever to see where you are in the queue because it opens to the first song in the queue and you have to scroll through the list to try to find the currently playing song.
Like Rhonny said, the S1 app is only for S1 compatible devices or S1/S2 compatible devices that are on or rolled back to the S1 version. Here is the breakdown: S1/S2
@John Guarr … I also use the SonoPad and the SonoPhone app. I don’t even fool with the crappy Sonos app and its updates. The music services in the SonoPad and SonoPhone app work excellent. Shows all the info needed . Clic is another great Sonos app. It has every option including speaker control like bass and treble.
Terrible functionality in application :(
I have Sony headphones before Sonos, and they have really functional application.
Please, add in application management between paired devices (Change device, remove device, add device, etc..).
I have 5 devices at home (2 phones, 2 TV and laptop) and it’s impossible to manage sound of headphones between them.
Also, there is no profiles for equalizer properties and it’s very uncomfortable to change properties between watch movie and listen music.

Yes, I’ve been complaining about this since last May. It’s hard to describe, but it loses your place in the playlist. This is the main reason why I switched to the SonoPad app. It remembers and displays the current or last song you are playing in a long queue, so you don’t have to scroll down to find the current song being played. I think that if the developers were forced to use their app, they would know this. It’s constant swiping down to change the volume, where it should be readily available on the window that pops up once selecting a song in a very long playlist. Then, if you select the Playlist button in the lower left quadrant of the Now Playing Window, it loses your place (or doesn’t remember your place) and takes you back to the top. Then the scrolling starts, and the enjoyment is gone. How many times have I said this over the past months. It is getting ridiculous. Yes, a lot of scrolling to find the current song. And like I said, this is the main reason why I stopped using the stupid Sonos app and am enjoying the SonoPad app. I have it on two iPads and just keep Sonos on my iPad mini and check every once in a while, to see if they corrected the problem. But I really don’t think they will.
Only 4 days to go before the anniversary of Sonos’s fall from grace. A whole year of endless complaints and the app is still nowhere near as intuitive and functional as the one it replaced. Managed to get OK prices for my Sonos hardware on eBay and other marketplaces, which eased the pain of spending around £2K on excellent Bluesound equivalents. A shame though, Sonos has betrayed long term customers like me. Only my TV setup to replace now, but since that hardly requires the app (and SonoPhone is better even for those minor issues) I can wait - and can’t currently afford not to!
Check out their share price - they are doomed.
I’ve come back here to see if it’s safe yet to download the new version as I’m still on the old version from before the disaster. I only listen to internet radio stations and play FLAC files from my NAS drive but it would appear I am still better of sticking with that old version.
It really is a disgrace that 1 year on they still haven’t sorted things out (going by what I’m reading on here)

Download it - and if you find it to be the disgrace you believe it will be, then you can post things like this with some credibility. Until then, you’re just adding unnecessary fuel to a fire that is almost burnt out.

I’m expressing my opinion which I’m entitled to do hsving owned Sonos products for roughly 18 years. I am going by what I read here because if I download it, I’m stuck with it and then I will be very annoyed if my system is worse than it was with the software I’m using now.
Please don’t try and lecture me about what I can and can’t post. I choose to post my opinions and am not interessted in brown nosing Sonos. Before the disaster last year I was always an ardent supporter of Sonos products.
Speculation is pointless. Will I win this game of chess? Don’t know, play it and see. There are tens of millions of Sonos customers around the world who are using their systems quite happily. They don’t post their satisfaction on here. Only those having issues, so it’s vastly disproportionate.

Many people are still saying the queue is not working as it used to before the disaster last year. I’ve seen recent release notes talking abouit fixes to the queue but it’s obvious to me that it isn’t yet fit for purpose.
I say this again, I can’t download it and try it because there’s no going back to a decent version if I do so I’m trying to find out what is still missing.
Why is @rhonny posting their opinion any different than you posting yours?
Why is @rhonny posting their opinion any different than you posting yours?
Because it’s not addressing the points that I’m investigating.
Telling someone to download it and try it is really stupid and not at all helpful when you consider the fact that downloading this new version means you are stuck with it.
I want honest answers related to the stability of the app and the queue facilities and the ability to scroll quickly through playlists and albums etc.

If @JohnG666 does actually have the pre 7th May 2024 S2 still installed and working then, with no route back, installing the current version would be a mistake.
As someone using the current app I remain frustrated by how unreliable it is, the missing features (specifically queue management), the way that promised regular updates have in reality been occasional updates and the general lack of communications.
Lack of posts here from frustrated long term users does not mean the fire has stopped burning, it means we have zero expectation that Sonos will ever fully solve the problems. Many have already moved to other platforms and others will follow. The Sonos experience is no longer the one that I paid for.
I accept that there are many here that are happy with the way things are and that the current app and firmware works to their satisfaction. I am one of the many that are unhappy.
After 7th May, I did not expect Sonos to fix everything in 3 months, as they promised, but I really did not think it would take more than a year. My patience finally ran in December.
Once upon a time Sonos just worked, those days are gone (for me at least).

Thank you for your post and well said sir.
I do indeed have the pre May update version on my Android phones. My devices did all auto update with that version and sadly there was no way back on my iPad so all I could do was to remove the app from my iPad. With Android there was an old version that you could download and install yourself so I did that on my phones and got rid of the new version thankfully. I’m still using that old version on my phones.
I would love it if I could get the app back on my iPad but I can’t until the app is in a state that is fit for MY purpose.
Before retirement I worked for over 30 years as a commercial software developer and have never seen a mess like this release in May last year was,
Just to leave my two cents…
I think on a forum like this any user is welcome to report about his own personal experiences. Whether good or bad ones.
The important point is not to spread bad vibes you just read about and haven’t experienced yourself, because that can paint a picture of the situation that is far away from truth. So to be honest… what do you think how many percentage still is left of old s2 functionality that isn’t recovered yet? So much to talk about a really bad app? That is a quite different status than talking about let’s say between 5 and 10 percent missing from full recovery.
So for me it’s ok to ask about still certain missing or not working features, but to generalize about the app status doesn‘t help anyone.

You can’t scroll quickly through lists like before. There’s no letter link jumping and playlists, queues and some other long lists seem to load in 100 item chunks, it’s a bit janky, not smooth. Queue management is largely back.
I’m still using SonoPhone and AirPlay mostly due to stability issues. YMMV
I wouldn’t update.

Thanks for that. I will stick with my old version for now and will keep an eye out on the release notes to see if these things are fixed or improved.
The skipping I was getting a few months back has gone with recent updates but I am still not entirely happy. I have Apple Music at the moment but want to see more improvement to recently played for local libraries. I used to use it to queue up some albums.
I wouldn’t update.

Fixes for quick scrolling are allegedly coming soon (they’ve been saying this for months)
Other thoughts: Load times are not good (for me it’s still taking too long to load, find my rooms and ready to control), volume is sometimes not responsive or lose the ability to control it and also random error codes - Im getting random “content is unavailable” errors since the last update.

I wish I’d never updated on May 7th last year - have ended up selling most of my Sonos gear and going with Bluesound instead. Everything was working perfectly before Sonos shot themselves in both feet...
@Flattliner
You’ve sold the majority of your Sonos and moved on to BlueSound. Good for you. You post the fact that you’ve done so in countless threads. You’re like a broken record repeating the same thing over and over and over again. What is your mission? What do you hope to gain by repeating the same thing to the point of ad nauseam. Hypothetically, if Sonos were to cease as a company where would direct your disdain or would you finally achieve satisfaction with mission accomplished? At some point it’s time to move on…which IMO your bus left a long time ago.
