The only system that got that right is Squeezebox Server, now Lyrion Music Server.  Let’s say I play a playlist named Jazz and stop on track 163.  Then I clear the queue and move on to some other playlist or source of music.  When I go back to play the Jazz playlist it starts on track 163.  The number of the track last played is written on to the playlist file.  You can ignore the Jazz playlist for months and next time you play Jazz it will start on track 163.

I was a big Squeezebox fan.  Some friends at work put me onto them before Logitec bought them and killed them.  I only went to Sonos after all my Squeezebox gear died.  I considered Sonos a downgrade but AFAIK they were almost the only game in town at the time.  This may sound silly but besides being a better platform for some of the reasons we’re identifying here, one of my favorite features was the VU meter screen saver.  Coming from the cassette tape deck era, I just liked still being able to “watch” my music….  ;-)

Thanks for the pointer to Lyrion.  I had no clue the LMS software lives on.

Yes.  It lives on.  It is open source and has been maintained since Logitec gave it up.  I still have a Touch and all my WiiM devices can be Squeezebox players.  I use iPeng & LyrPlay as controller apps.

This is not what the OP was talking about, but what I’m about to suggest does involve the queue.  When I’m playing music on a soundbar system and the queue is loaded with music all is well.  When I change to watching TV the queue is no longer available.  It would be nice if there was a way to start playing from the queue where you left off when you are done with TV.

I did try something to see if the function described in the first paragraph was possible.  So I started playing a playlist and while it was playing I switched to watching TV. While I was watching TV I decided to use Sonos Voice Control to return to playing music.  My request was “Hey Sonos.  Play”.  The indicator LED did turn brighter indicating the request was heard, but the Arc locked up to the point no request was executed.  I had to power cycle the Arc to get it back to normal operation.

If possible it would be nice to have a way to access the same queue you were using before you switched to watching TV.  Doesn’t necessarily have to be executed using SVC.  Some kind of queue icon on the TV Now Playing screen would be good.

I don't have a sound bar and I never use what Sonos speakers/products I have with a TV input but sounds kind of like the same issue.  No matter *what* other source or program is used, it would nice to have the queue be persistent.  Not to mention remember where it left off.
