The recent (2024) update to the Sonos App left the S2 app on my laptop computer, but deleted the definition of the Music Library Folder. I repeated got Error 913 when I tried to recreate the path to the folder. Sadly, the update did put the new app on my iPhone and the interface is a mess. But it cannot access the Music Library either, although my various Music Services work.
I did an online Live Chat with Sonos but after learning that the new app needs SMB V2 or V3 (Server Message Block). I was told how to turn off version 1, but not how to add SMB V2 or V3. The problem was not solved. So that’s the first issue - you must have a correct version of SMB to support the new iOS app. It may be related to why I could not recreate a Music Library folder too.
Here is a short 3 minute video that show you how to update SMB protocol to version 2 using PowerShell.
After several more unsuccessful attempts to chat live, I gave up and waited an hour on the phone to talk to a Sonos rep. That person was very patient and gave me the rest of the solution: a new local Sonos user account had to be created with Full permissions to set up the Music Library folder. This user account is only used when “Adding” a Music Library Folder. (I assume probably to change it too?) Of course, the Music Library Folder must be correctly set up as a “Shared” folder.
My Music Library is on a external desktop drive connected to my laptop with a USB port. When I have defined the Music Library in the past, I always selected “folder or drive connected to my computer”. The Sonos procedure was to connect to a network drive (NAS). I don’t know why that was different but it worked.
My Sonos S2 Music Library is now working again.
