Technology that needs advanced engineering Sonos Tech and Research and Development:
Great Break Through in a system improvement to accommodate everyone especiall those lacking an internet provider:
- make a new sonos connect device that has a usb input to accommodate an external hard drive of possibly up to 1TB of data so a user can play their library directly through the component and avoid the need for usb capable modems or NAD devices
Not any more likely to happen now than when you asked for this 7 months ago. Fewer and fewer people use their own music libraries, and those that do are likely to be interested in a storage solution that works for more than just Sonos.
- 2) make the sonos connect capable of connecting to a users cell phone data via username and password to enable streaming of radio if desired
You can do this already if you setup your phone as a wifi hotspot. You would then need a second device connect to the same WiFi to use as a controller. Or, you could just get a Move and use bluetooth for these situations.
- 3) bring back the hand held controller so sonos is totally operational and functional without the need for a phone app or computer app
There is no reason to think the market has swung back around to make this a profitable idea again.
- I believe these ideas are worthy of consideration and would make the product more accessible for people in remote locations and who wish to not store music on a computer or even need a computer to enjoy their music libraries like we did with our LP’s and CD’s and Cassettes This product should be like a stereo system without the need for any other devices required to operate it
Again, hard to see that there is much of a market for people in remote locations (no home internet access) looking for a wireless home audio system. If you want a single stereo system, there are many other options to choice from with bluetooth if you want audio through your phone’s mobile network.

- to sum it all up you need the connect to accommodate a hard drive and also have cell phone data connecting capability and a hand held remote controller to operate the whole system without computers or phones
To sum it all up, nearly every router made has this USB Port, and NAS drives are cheap. Remote areas with no internet are extremely scarce these days, and Sonos can already use a cellular hotspot. A dedicated hand held controller is nonsense when everybody already owns one that they carry around in their pocket.
