The title of this post is taken from the cover of Time Magazine's most recent issue. In the age of AI that intersects with our lives on a daily basis I found it very interesting.

It doesn’t apply to Sonos directly; but as you may have noticed more SPAM is being AI generated in the community; much to the chagrin of GainSight. OP’s are using the internet to resolve issues with AI generated answers some accurate and some not on a more frequent basis.

That said I thought others might be interested to read just as an FYI. AI Tech is evolving at exponential rates. I believe the more we understand it the better prepared we are to deal with it.

I personally believe that AI (as it relates to Sonos) will play an increasing role in the future between the end-user and the App as Sonos continues to evolve.

So, if you’ve got some spare time and don’t mind reading a rather lengthy article here’s the link.

Enjoy and please leave your opinion(s).

It’s still just a password. While it would hard to “forget” this password, it would also be hard to change your password if necessary.

I can't see how AI can "improve" my interaction with the app.

Open app

Decide what to listen to

Hit go

Select where to play

Music service AI could suggest that you play ‘this’ tune or ‘that’ tune.

Since the AI will be online, the metadata can be greatly expanded. It would be possible to search for all artists associated with a track or album and discover that an Individual performed on an album early in their career, if only as a music stand assembler. This would routinely be available through the SONOS interface, rather than requiring the listener to execute multiple searches. In the LP days album jackets would be rich with information about the recording and the artists. With many CD’s nowadays, the information is often limited headline artist’s name, a picture, list of tracks, and a copyright notice.

EDIT: corrected “offline” to “online”. (darn autocorrect features)

Good points buzz.

For me I don't see it as useful though, but that's just me.

Good thoughts everyone. Just keep in mind that AI intertwined with Sonos is most likely a ways off. Furthermore no one can say to what degree. Point of fact in the 60’s and 70’s the internet was a pipe dream for the consumer. Barcodes while in development in the 6O’s were not in widespread use until the 70’s. So I think it’s proper to say….Never say never…regardless of how we may feel today about Sonos role with AI in the future.

AI is already part of the Arc Ultra.

Isn’t this pretty much what Pandora is?  The entire concept was that you pick an artist you like and the service curates a list of similar artists that you will likely also like, etc.  Other services obviously copied this feature, but the point is, it’s nothing new.  I guess your expanding on the idea by looking other factors that could better curate to the listener’s preferences. I don’t know that Sonos could do this feature better than a music service since their streaming service is rather limited.

I could see where Sonos could possibly leverage AI to automatically start playing music at specific volumes in certain rooms based on the patterns it’s learned about you.  Humans are definitely creatures of habit, but also often unpredictable, or additional factors change our decisions.   Someone may prefer to listen punk rock at certain time of day….unless Mom’s stopped by for a visit.  That said it would be nice to be able to tell Sonos Voice control to play some music and it knows what I probably want to hear already.

I would love to see some sort of use of AI to troubleshoot networking issues and correct them for you.

I don’t know that there is much more that Sonos can really do with AI.  Probably the biggest imapct would be too incorporate AI voice assistants from Google/Amazon/Apple into the product.
