The New Sonos App and Future Feature Updates

Hey all, today we're sharing a message from our chief innovation officer, Nick Millington in the announcement here. Going forwards we will update that topic and we therefore close this one for further replies.

We set out to create a more personalized and effortless listening experience with the updated Sonos app. It was rebuilt from the ground up to ensure it could support future innovation in the years to come. For its initial rollout, we focused on how we could answer some of the most common requests from our customers, including increased reliability, performance, and faster access to music.

Many of you have shared valuable feedback on both the improvements that have made your experience better, as well as the areas where we fell short. We are listening to all of your comments and working to address them as quickly as possible. Over the coming weeks, we will reintroduce the below features, while fixing bugs and performance issues. Thank you for your engagement and we look forward to building upon this first step to create a listening experience that meets everyone’s needs.

Progress! Just risked a desktop update for the new 16.4.2 firmware (no iOS update available yet) and… the local library “compilation bug” has been fixed. No sign of an update for the still-broken ipad app, so on iOS any tracks with guest artists don’t show up in an album view. Didn’t even need to re-scan my library!

Looks like the tagging info (artist tag with multiple artists or different artist from the album artist) was there in the local library database all the time, and it was just the clients failing to display the tracklisting correctly (or at all). Which is crazy. But I guess every software developer learns the “put your logic in the server not the client” lesson eventually (usually before you ship the bug, not “months after”).

BRING THE PLAYLISTS BACK!

This does not make sense. Playlists were never removed. The que was, for a short time and has not reached full functionality yet, it seems. What problem do you experience?

This new update hasn't made it to my phone yet. I wish it would hurry up.

With the latest updates (iOS, Windows Client, Firmware) my local NAS library that thought to be fixed in the last couple of months started acting up again. Most tracks are shown with their filename xxxxxxx.m4a or xxxxxx.mp3 instead of their tagged names. My latest addition, an mp3 file, shows up but cannot be played. The ( in Sonos imported) iTunes playlists work fine locally on iphone. Also covers from mp3s and (store purchased) m4as won‘t load in Sonos while working fine on iPhone.

All this has worked before just fine a month ago or what. What happened?

I still have not got the latest Android controller release, but it does say rolling out over a few days.

Also says that there is a new iOS version released on the 16th, not sure if that is also a staged release.

There’s a new iOS version appeared today. Not sure how “new” it is - the “compilation album / guest artists” bug is still there (despite being fixed a few days ago in the desktop controller).

Is there intent to add back in the line level input settings for things like turntables ?  It doesn’t exist in the new app.

Well, you did it again. The music library disappeared again from android & windows pc & will not re-install with error 1002.

Where is your library?  What kind of network do you have?  Define the procedure you used to try to connect to your library.
