Just got a new Sonos Ray and wanted to play music with YouTube Music from my phone, but that wasn’t possible, even with a premium family subscription. So I read a bunch of other support articles, Reddit posts and so on, tried the different suggestions, and nothing works.

So I ended up calling support on the phone, they connected to my pc and made YT Music work, but not with the account I have all my playlists on.

After hanging up I thought that the issue also were solved on my phone (Samsung Galaxy s23 ultra) but nope, no matter which account I choose, I get the error message “Something went wrong”, but if I choose the only (the wrong account) account that works on the (Windows) Sonos app, it works.

So my issue is that I can’t get YT Music to work on Android/phone, which is my primary device for playing music on.

Hello @TD-DK, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing issues playing YouTube Music via your phone on your Sonos Ray.

It appears to be account specific issue, since it’s working fine on a different account as you mentioned.

I would suggest you to reach out to Google and let them have a look on the account at question.

All you can do from Sonos-side would be to attempt to remove and re-add YouTube Music via the Sonos App to complete the re-authorization process when selecting the account.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Sotiris C., I have to disagree with it being “account specific”.

Because as I wrote, it only worked on my PC, not on my phone.
Even if I use the same account as on my PC, on my phone, it doesn’t work. Both my phone, PC and the Sonos apps are all up to date/running the latest version.

UPDATE!

I tried connecting YT music on the Sonos app on my Samsung tablet, just to get the exact same issue as on my phone.

So I called and spoke with support again, they still didn't fix my issue, just suggested that I try to find a friend or family member with an iPhone and test it on on apple product?!

I really hope someone can help me with this ridiculous issue, so I won't have to return my sonos product...

YouTube Musice on the Android Sonos App has been broken for me for a couple of months as well.

-Shuffle a playlist just plays the songs sequentially

-Selecting play now on a song further down in a playlist either says “something went wrong” or starts a totally different song in the playlist

-Skipping a song while playing either doesn’t do anything or says “something went wrong”

No issues with the Apple App or the Windows app.  Clearly not a Google YouTube Music issue, the Android app is buggy.

Might be time to abort Sonos...I expected better from such an expensive platform.

I have 6 x Sonos Ones and SL’s, 2 x Sonos Amps and 3 x Sonos Ports which, as you can imagine, was a huge investment on my part to channel my YouTube Streaming Music via my Android phone across my property. Recently YT Music (YT) stopped working. When I try to play a YT playlist, I get the spinning circle of death on the play symbol. On the 1 time out of 15 it works, shuffle no longer works. Or it plays one different song then repeats the 4 songs its already previously played. Then it goes back to not playing at all.

I have unlinked my account, relinked, reset my router, ‘forgotten’ my entire system, reset and reconnected every one of my components, uninstalled the app, reinstalled it, relinked YT, and relinked components. Sonos S1 gives me a really helpful option to download a google chrome app instead of downgrading my system to work on the S1 App.

I see you can connect to the system by bypassing the Sonos App completely and connect directly to the system via the Spotify app. However, it only recognizes some of my components, not all now (a new feature). This function is not supported in the YT Music app.

I was a huge Sonos fan and was prepared to back that with thousands of dollars of investment in hardware. So Mr Sonos, what do I do please, aside from selling it to a punter with a penchant for half the system running ‘reliably’ on the Spotify App or do I simply scrap Sonos as an option and look at another brand? Why you had to replace a perfectly good working app and then brick it, is beyond me. Any help here would be appreciated
