Just adding this thread to see if a solution has been found. As Im sure many others have experienced, in my Sonos app, not all songs in my playlists are available to play. Many songs are greyed out.
Lets get some urgency behind this problem and find a solution!’

Hi @m_cat12
Welcome to the Sonos Community!
I am sorry to hear about this issue you are having with tracks being greyed-out in your playlists for YouTube Music.
I use YouTube Music daily and see no such issue, so I think I need some more information in regards to your situation.
Are the playlists you mention YouTube Music playlists, uploaded playlist files (like .m3u or .pls), or Sonos playlists?
Is there any pattern to the tracks that are greyed-out? Are they uploaded tracks of your own, for example, or are they YouTube’s own content?
Do you have a paid “Premium” subscription to YouTube, or are you using free YouTube? If you have a paid account, please check that it is still valid.
Once I know more, I shall see if I can recreate the same issue you see.
Hi Corry and thanks for responding. Im at work now so i cant popup my Sonos app to take a picture. In simple terms, when I use YouTube Music through my Sonos app only a small portion of songs are available to play. Whats wierd is that all of the songs show in my playlist, but the majority are greyed out. I do pay for YT Music Premium.
Ive attached here a photo of what my YT Music playlist looks like in the YT Music app. All of the songs are available to play and listen to.
When i open my Sonos app thats connected to my YT music account, the only song thats not greyed out is deadmau5. All the other songs are not available.
When i get home after work, ill take a photo of my Sonos app. Thanks again.
Hi @m_cat12
Thanks!
While I was able to play the first track on the list on my Sonos system (Miss Monique WE2), I did find other tracks that were greyed-out, largely on the “Tomorrowland Belgium 20225 - Livesets” playlist.
So, I am able to reproduce this issue on my own system with my own account, and I have reported as much.
Thanks for flagging this with us - we will investigate. Once I have more information, I will update this thread.
Please verify for me, if you get the chance, that you are unable to play the first track shown in your screenshot from the Sonos app - if different accounts are unable to play different tracks, that may well be important for us to know. Thanks.
Hi Corry P
Thank you again for your help! So when I got home from work, I took a few additional screenshots that may help with the investigation: (5 total)
Sonos App: This photo shows exactly what I see in my Sonos App. And, it sounds like you’re seeing the same thing. Miss Monique is available to play, but many songs below (and above not shown) are greyed out.
Sonos App: This is how my YT Music playlists display in my Sonos App. All playlists seem to be active.
Sonos App: However, the step before choosing ‘Playlists’, the Sonos App is showing Playlists, Songs, Artists, and Subscriptions as greyed out. I can confirm that when i choose Songs, Artists, etc...the same issue is happening where many of the items are greyed out.
4 Sonos App: First step in Choosing YT Music in Sonos App.
Sonos App: As a comparison, this is what Apple Music looks like in my Sonos App.
Hi @m_cat12
Thanks for that.
Could you please confirm for me that you are unable to search for and find any of the specific tracks that are greyed-out?
This would imply that the tracks are not actually available (by YouTube Music’s choice) and only show in playlists because those playlists point to those unavailable tracks. If the tracks cannot be searched for and found, then they are intentionally unavailable, I feel, in which case, all this is by design (but not our design, to be clear). We will still try to figure out why this is.
As for the screenshots, @m_cat12
Nothing here is greyed-out - that’s just the way it looks.
These sections do depend on interaction with YouTube Music, however - if you do not either upload tracks or “like” tracks, “Songs” will appear empty. If you do not subscribe to any artists withing YTM or YouTube itself, Subscriptions will be empty, and so on. Empty section may well be unclickable - I can’t check as I have liked content.
The fact that Apple Music has coloured icons is basically irrelevant, and simply just a choice they made that YTM did not.
I hope this help.
Chatting with Google help, seems like the most likely culprit is song licensing and not available to play on 3rd party apps. Unfortunately this is the reality. Thank you for listening and trying to help.

Recent post on Reddit would suggest there is some issue if what they say is actually true.
