I switched to YouTube music from Spotify and it went pretty smooth. The only big issue is that the Sonos app will simply refuse to play any of the podcasts I subscribe to in Youtube Music.
I have seen that more people have raised this issue but that Sonos isn’t really acting on this issue, or at least isn’t making it a priority.
Is there any idea on what the steps are that Sonos is taking?

From a quick search, it appears an issue with podcasts was identified but no confirmation of it being resolved.
Unfortunately, Sonos isn’t responsible for the content displayed by YouTube Music in the Sonos app. All Sonos does is display whatever they’re sent by the YouTube server.
Have you contacted the YouTube folks to ask why your podcasts are not being sent to the Sonos system?

Well Sonos has acknowledged it being a bug and/or they identified it was indeed an issue in their side and they were looking into it. That was 5 months ago and they still haven't fixed it and they haven't updated where they are in the process.
If it would be an issue on Google's side, why does it work on every other device with YouTube music integration I have but Sonos is the only platform where it isn't working. It is also only the podcasts that are causing issues, everything else works fine in YouTube music.
Probably because Google uses a different server for the Sonos stream than other devices, one that has the Sonos SMAPI integrated, so the data can show up and be read by the Sonos clients.
I can’t speak to the ‘Sonos acknowledged it being a bug’, I don’t recall that, nor have you provided a link to where they did so. From a developer perspective, it’s hard to imagine the SMAPI that is used by all companies to connect with the Sonos system doesn’t work in one specific instance, but I don’t work for Sonos, so it’s possible it is indeed their problem.
I’ll wait to see if a moderator / Sonos employee responds to your post.
