Hi there, this has been an issue for quite a while now, sometimes it completely prevents me from streaming content and at other times it’s intermittent.

Basically, I like to be able to stream YouTube on my phone via AirPlay, listening to narrations and other audio content there which is not available from audio only platforms.

I get an error on youtube “Something went wrong”. This can happen immediately preventing me from listening to the content on my Sonos speakers or, just as annoyingly, start and then get the error at random times during playback. This random stop may then prevent me from listening or a refresh may work for a while before it happens again.

If I don’t AirPlay to my speakers it works just fine. I also tried streaming to my Apple TV, to see if it was an AirPlay problem, however that worked just fine.

After scowering the internet, it seems to be a known issue. I’ve seen suggestions such as jumping into the Sonos app and then back to YouTube, restarting apps, phones and routers etc. None of those have worked.

… so… am I alone in this?

Hi @Hrellir

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am sorry to hear of this issue you have been having with playing YouTube content to your Sonos speakers over AirPlay.

Thank you for reporting this to us. We were aware of this issue, but also of it being resolved nearly a month ago!

I recommend you ensure that all apps (especially YouTube) and your Sonos system are fully up to date.

If you still encounter this issue afterwards, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports. In the meantime, however, you should be able to open YouTube from your device’s Internet Browser and AirPlay your content to Sonos that way instead.

I hope this helps.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

I probably should’ve mentioned that I am fully up to date. Since I had been scouring the intertubes to figure this out over quite a while, I was aware of the fix that went out recently. And it did work, but subsequent versions seem to have broken it. My apps and firmware have all been updated as soon as an update rolls out.

I last encountered the issue just last night, as playback stopped a few minutes into being played.

Hi @Hrellir

Understood.

If the YouTube app is fully updated and you can play AirPlay to the same speaker from the same device while using a different app, I can only really recommend getting in touch with Google and/or Apple (Apple may want to enforce their App Store regulations - I don’t know) to inform them further work is needed. As I understand it, it was Google who addressed this issue last month.

If you cannot AirPlay from any app on the device, I recommend a reboot of the speaker, the source device, and your router, and to call in to our team if that does not help.

I hope this helps.
