i’ve seen this on an old topic which is now closed. Playing wxrt on audacy on my sonos (original play1 speakers) and it will start up plating and just stops after 5 minutes or so.  sometimes it will play all day if i leave it on but lately im lucky if the station plays 10 minutes. sometimes it comes back on but usually not. if i have the app open, it just shows  that the music is stopped and i can hit the play button to resume. but again it my stop again a few minutes later. it’s not my wifi. if i play the same station and app on my receiver with bluos, it plays fine and doesn’t disconnect.

I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, their lawyers get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

do you use alexa to tell it to play or use the app. it’s been pretty good the last few days when i start playback from the app. usually i do “alexa play 93xrt in room” and i will get an error message from the amazon dot

Hi Phil56,

I use Alexa. I would prefer to use Google Assistant but I could never get it to work properly.

Thanks for your input.

The issue still exists.  The problem occurs when WXRT goes to commercial breaks.  At that time, the station is dropped.  This has occurred on all my Sonos devices.  When I play WXRT directly on an Amazon device, there is no dropping of the signal during commercial breaks.

Fixed issue by deleting the Audacy app from Sonos.  Then re-added Audacy to Sonos and all is good again.  The Sonos help desk helped to identify this solution.

I can confirm that uninstalling and reinstalling Audacy and using the Alexa does NOT fix this WXRT glitch. I can play WXRT via Sonos radio, but that defeats the whole purpose of it be a hands free device.

Very frustrating TBH

That certainly suggests that the Audacy server that is used doesn’t properly connect to WXRT stream in some way. Have you contacted either Audacy, or the radio station directly?

Thanks for reaching out.

WXRT via Audacy works on all of my other devices, so is definitely tied to Sonos/Alexa/WXRT combo.

You are correct. I’ve been just as frustrated.  Playing XRT via Audacy in the Sonos app works. Playing XRT via Audacy with Alexa verbally instructing Sonos is the issue. When done verbally, once a commercial break occurs it drops the signal or gets into a loop repeating the commercial, but typically drops the channel.

I was at my son’s house, using his Google device and when verbally playing XRT, the same issue occurred. Audacy is the issue, it isn’t playing well via verbal communication when interfacing with Alexa or Google. Add in the additional interface to Sonos, and now who takes ownership of the problem?

I have discussed this with Sonos in the past, but haven’t devoted time recently to try again.

Very frustrating indeed as i normally turn on WXRT via voice while in the kitchen but the experience that we are having is painful. In these situations I either change to sports or q101.

Im disappointed that Sonos isn't addressing this issue as it always wasn't like this, so something changed along the way to break this.

Has anyone tried using Google voice recently, particularly with WXRT/Audacy?  When I 1st got my Sonos system I tried Google, but it didn't work well. I opened a ticket, but it never was as good as Alexa. I'm willing to switch to Google voice if it allows me to listen to XRT glitch free, so just checking before I invest the time to switch.

Thanks and take care

While I understand your frustration with the situation, if it’s working fine when using the Sonos controller, but not when using voice commands, that seems to point at it not being a Sonos issue, but a Google or Audacy issue. Have you contacted either of them, or even WXRT themselves?
