Sonos app on PC.

Shared folder on the same PC.

mp3 file in the shared folder. 

Click on it to play in the sonos app on the PC… file plays on the selected speaker/speakers (One and One SL)

Tap on it to play in the android Sonos app.

‘an error has occured’

File does not play.

All speakers forgotten by the app. No components in the system.

No components found on the network.

Cannot add the components back.

Open PC sonos app. Speakers are still there. Click on the file… plays on the speakers

AND

speakers suddenly reappear in the android apps.

Odd behaviour. 

All that’s needed now is your question. 


Why is this happening, and how to can I prevent it?

Apologies for assuming such was easily inferable. 


I'd blame the App first.

Try resetting it from the settings screen. Try rebooting the controllers device.


Resetting had no effect. Reinstalling had no effect.

Rebooting the speakers has not solved the issue.

I can use a 3rd party app (HiFi Cast) to play some mp3 files through the system.


If the folder plays from the PC app and not from Android, more than likely you are using the old HTTP share instead of SMB v2/3.  You need to remove the share, configure the share to SMB v2 or v3, and re-add.  See these links:

Pay careful attention to the “Share your music folder on the network” section.
