Windows App presents compilation albums as individual tracks

As topic. The Android phone app works as expected, e.g.

If I search for “A State of Trance” under albums then it displays 1 album (comprising 5 discs) from my library (on my network share) and I can play that whole album. Same for the “Random” album, a Gary Numan tribute album comprising multiple artists. However, in the Windows app, under albums it presents as individual tracks. Using the web app is not an option of course because that doesn’t even support my own libraries at all, only streaming services.

This is a known bug. Hopefully fixed at some point in the not too distant future but who knows.

It is possible to fix this yourself as long as you don’t want to list your collection by individual artist or composer.

Download Mp3tag, select the CD folder from your music library, select all tunes/songs, set Artist ( not the Album Artist) and Composer fields to <blank>, save and re-index your Sonos Music Library.

Next time you list by album you will only see one entry.  I had about 20 such albums, it took about 40 mins to fix.

Today Firmware 16.4.2 was released and the album compilation bug has been fixed. 😎

Unfortunately Firmware 16.4.2 has not fixed this bug n my MacBookAir (OS Sequoia). The compilations albums are all listed as individual songs, as in All Night Long on screenshot

@MikeBird

I have checked both desktop controllers… Windows and MacOS. For both even still on version 16.3 the issue was resolved after the firmware update to 16.4.2.

Btw there also is an update available for both desktop controllers also to version 16.4.2.

Then why do I get the above with every compilation album listing as individual songs instead of grouped in the album. I have the latest macOS and iOS updates and the Sonos 16.4.2 firmware upgrade but the problem has not resolved

Sonos are still working on this issue. It has been fixed for many users, but as you are finding it is still an issue for some.

Ross.

It’s also an issue of correct id3 tagging. Compilations have to be set the sams „album artist“ for each track as far as I know.
Maybe some users mixed that up with „track artist“.

Have you re-indexed it since the update?

For me re indexing wasn’t necessary.
@MikeBird

Are you sure that all of your compilation tracks are tagged the same for album artist?

Same here. Indexing wasn’t necessary. My compilations all looked fine simply by applying the Firmware update. It is my understanding that Sonos will address the outstanding issues that others are having in upcoming update.

I am not sure how that would qualify as a fix. If you have say a ‘best of the 80s’ compilation album, you *want* to have all artists visible in the artist  section. It's just that when looking at the album list it should just say ‘Best of the 80s’ once. This is how it used to work without having to forcibly remove information from my songs.
