Why does the iOS queue not render?

I uninstalled the Sonos Controller from my iPhone and then reinstalled, so I presume have the latest build of it.

I added 34 entries to a queue using the Add to end of queue and Add next options. When I click the queue button, the Queue page opens and never fully realizes--all I see is a grey list of items with no data in it. It does render the correct track count. See screen shot.

I tried leaving the queue up for a while and it did not seem to render.

I am loading tracks from a (large) personal library, though it seems like that should not matter.

This feature does work on my MacOS controller on my MacBook Pro--I can see all of the songs just fine.

This feature appears to have been broken for me since two years ago--so is it just me? I can’t fathom why such a major and fundamental feature would remain broken for everyone.

Since the move to the cloud for music services, the mobile app has had challenges with local library support because the reach-around from the cloud back to local is, well, a bit tricky.

The Desktop app doesn’t use the cloud stuff, so is always going to be more reliable than mobile for this.

FWIW I don’t see this specific problem, but I’m using a Windows Server for my music.

There was an S1-only bug a while ago with Apple Music playlists that displayed like this, hard to see if that is related.

Thanks for the reply. The Sonos components to which this renders are a combination of S1 (I have two old Play 3) and one S2 (Sonos 5) controllers.

I guess I could try removing the Play 3 units from the network to see if that clears up the problem.

If this has been broken for 2 years, it could be because Sonos S2 has changed how local music libraries are accessed on macs. These might help:

Share your macOS music folder with Sonos

Add your music library to Sonos

Mixing S1 and S2 systems is not possible. S1 systems require an S1 controller and S2 systems require an S2 controller. You can have both, but they don’t interact. Also, they access the local music library differently. S2 now requires the library to be set up as an SMBv2/v3 share.

Play 3’s are S2 capable.

Thanks KDowling,

The queue feature for me was completely broken with the notorious 2024 release; it had been working fine up until then.

I’m serving the music from an SMB share on a linux box. The Samba (SMB) version is 4.13.17-Ubuntu. When serving up music, the protocol is v3:

PID     Username     Group        Machine                                   Protocol Version  Encryption           Signing

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3033018 nobody       nogroup      192.168.1.4 (ipv4:192.168.1.4:44750)      SMB3_02           -                    -

I remember the alphabet index to the right in the artist list being broken for like the first year, and then it was fixed (perhaps a year ago?). Maybe portions of the queue feature had been fixed by this time (the ability to add to end of queue or add next, perhaps?).

But I just figured Sonos was still working on the rendering of the queue.

I take it that queues are correctly working on your phone, yes?

I had posted earlier than this, but it got blocked, maybe some details in the config? They are indeed S2 boxes, my apologies for the earlier error.

The queue has been working for quite some time. I couldn’t tell you how long ago that was fixed, but it’s been a while. I’ve never seen the problem you are showing where the queue shows the number of tracks, but the track names are blank.

I’d make sure all the sonos devices and controllers are up to date. Then rebuild the music library index.

This seemed promising. I updated the devices (Settings → General Settings → System Updates → Check for Updates), then did Settings → Music Library; Music Library Settings → Scan for New Content. Then I opened the Mac controller and did Manage → Update Music Library Now, then closed my app and reopened. I still see the problem, unfortunately.

I also looked at my wife’s phone’s Sonos app. She has the same build of the app that I do. She also sees the same problem on the queue I just created (with a smaller number of items).

About your system says:
Sonos OS: S2
Build: 89.00.61-release+20260908.12771c225

Have you submitted a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of reproducing the issue, and called Sonos Support to discuss it? Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution. Or, if it is a bug, having detailed information to pass on might help.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
