Moderator edit: Removed Sonos ID as Identifying Information

What did they say when you contacted Sonos Customer Care?

My guess would be some sort of VPN or virus protection, but I don’t have access to the same data they do.

Did you try the update a second time and did it still fail? If so, then try uninstalling the App and reinstalling it from this official link:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/downloads

Choose to follow the onscreen instructions and connect the App back to the existing Sonos system on the local network.

Hope that works for you.

thankj you both for suggestions,

uninstalled the S2 app, reinstalled from Link,  connected to existing system with no issue,

clicked check for updates

looked like it was starting to download something but then failed with same error.

i dont run a VPN, i tried disabling antivirus, firewall, etc  and tried again,

same error

The App itself should not need an update as you will have downloaded/installed the latest version from Sonos.com, so my thinking is that it’s a player update that is failing. Try rebooting your router and Sonos devices, one at a time and see if that then resolves the update issue.

If the issues persist after that, then immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and contact/chat with Sonos Support Staff via this LINK and see what the Staff can perhaps suggest to help you to resolve the matter.

Take a look in C:\programdata\SonosV2,_Inc\runtime

There’s Installer.log, but this is for the actual PC app which seems to be installing fine.

Next look at the newest .xml file in there, that has a lot more information.

FYI Everyone,  Sonos Support Staff responded , As of recently, Sonos is no longer updating the desktop controller app. To access Sonos via your home computer you can use the Web Controlelr found here: https://play.sonos.com/home???????

I’ve just tried the web controller and it is definitely not a replacement for the desktop app, especially if you use a local library. It’s like the new mobile app was a few months ago - you can’t search in your local music library and browsing it is painfully slow.
It also suffers from all the problems with the mobile app such as the inability to add tracks to a Sonos Playlist, which I need to use the desktop app to do.

If you want a PC app, try mine: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh4x6j0?ocid=badge

iBcoop: I’m not getting any problem updating my Windows 11 S2 app to version 16.6 - It just updated without any problem at all.

But I think you need to elaborate on the “Sonos is no longer updating the desktop controller app” - because, quite clearly, Sonos just did this last week.

So, is it your understanding that -sometime in the future- Sonos will not continue updating the Windows app - that is, 16.6 is the final version? Or did Sonos staff mean something else?
