My Sonos music folder is on a NSA310S external hard drive. I have always added CDs by ripping them to iTunes and then copying from the iTunes folder to the NSA310S external hard drive. This had always worked until now.
The NSA310S icon has vanished from the bottom left of the file explorer screen where it previously showed up under This PC and Network. At least I believe it has vanished from where it used to be - I was initially worried I had forgotten how to do it!
Click on Network and NSA310S shows up under Media Devices. Double click opens to what I assume is the device's IP address - a page titled Twonky with various links to settings etc. Right click gives three options 1. View device webpage (the Twonky page as described above), 2. Create shortcut, 3. Properties - this gives model number, IP address, serial number.
If I open This PC NSA310S is there under Network locations. Double click to open and it states This folder is empty.
The Sonos system plays fine - in other words it is still pointing to the NS310S so this drive is blatantly not empty. The problem is I am unable to add CDs.
I hope this make sense.
What computer operating system are you using?
That really sounds like Windows. It has been years since I used that OS but maybe you can configure the external drive as a permanent/named share so it won’t move around on you?
Windows 11
Either something has changed in Windows or the NSA310S drive. Should I try deleting the NSA310S from my network and reinstalling? If I reset the NSA310S by sticking a pin in the reset hole will that delete the drive’s contents, in other words lose the music files?
First, on the TWONKY page there should be a slider to turn it on/off. Make sure it’s turned ON (may also be labeled DLNA Media Server). If it’s turned on don’t reset the NSA device. Power it off, remove it from Windows, restart windows, power on the NSA drive and re-add it to Windows. A recent windows update caused me to lose my NAS and I had to reconnect it.
Thanks Hornet305. However didn’t work I’m afraid. No on/off slider to be found on my TWONKY page. Have removed and rebooted countless times. All I have achieved is the NSA310S has now vanished from This PC. Still cheerfully plays music though!
I don’t use Windows but have read online that permissions to network drives on Windows 11 changed recently and this might be the issue. Something along the lines of an entry in the firewall rules that need to be removed and then the NAS gets mapped again.
This of course might be a red herring
Edit, Windows Control Panel, Credential Manager - Windows Credentials. Remove old credentials and regenerate for NAS share,
