I often listen to podcasts on Sonos, and have done so for years without problems. However, two things happened that have led to enormous frustration in my ability to continue to do this. First, I used to listen to podcasts using Stitcher, was has now been discontinued. Second, Sonos updated their app, and as we all know, nothing has been the same since.

I have tried Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, and Spotify, and each present problems. Because there is no direct link between Apple Podcasts and Sonos, I listen to Apple Podcasts through AirPlay on my Sonos Move and Roam speakers. However, it often drops the connection of one or more speakers, it’s difficult to connect to my other Sonos speakers, the volume control is even worse than when playing directly through the Sonos app, etc. I’ve asked Sonos support for help, but as of today, none of the problems have been resolved.

I have also tried Pocket Casts and Spotify. While both allow for direct control from the Sonos app, a huge benefit, it is difficult to play podcasts one right after the other. For Pocket Casts, it seems you have to add podcasts to a queue, which can be clunky and time consuming. In addition, the queue often randomly stops playing, or plays the same episode multiple times. There is also no synchronization with my Pocket Cast app.

I’ve had similar problems with Spotify, even when connecting directly from the Sonos app to the Spotify app. Spotify, in a sense, is even worse, because without a premium account, it seems impossible to create a list of unplayed episodes.

Any thoughts or suggestions???

Hello @lisak, welcome back!

I am sorry to hear you are having connection issues while using AirPlay on your Sonos Move and Sonos Roam.

It is not clear what troubleshooting steps you’ve taken so far, but the main one would be to refresh the network connection by rebooting all networking devices involved.

Start with your router → Sonos → controller (smartphone / tablet)

If you are still experiencing disconnections or audio interruptions, please Submit Diagnostics within 10 minutes of them occurring and then reach out to our Support Team for live troubleshooting.

They have tools at their disposal to provide you with information and advice specific to your system and what it reports.

Thank you for the feedback, it is much appreciated. I’ve marked this thread as a feature request to improve queue management when it comes to podcasts in the Sonos App.

I hope this helps.

I talked with someone at Sonos earlier today. He said that volume control issues with the app are due to a bug that Sonos is working to resolve. I’ve been told this before. He also couldn’t identify the cause of the issue with AirPlay dropping. I wish Sonos would address this issue as it seems to be impacting lots of other folks (either fix the AirPlay problem or come up with a better way to listen to podcasts).
