Tidal - Hi Res

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Amazon & Qobuz are both available in Hi-Res, why not Tidal?

100% on Tidal.  Sonos provides an API for the music services to integrate and the coding of that integration is up to the service themselves.

Yes you are. You’re getting Cd quality (better than Spotify) but no hi-res. Which tidal has available but not on Sonos.

A key thing to keep in mind when looking at hi-res services, can you hear the difference in a CD / Lossless signal and a more expensive one that has more bits to clog up your connections?

Even when my ears still worked I couldn’t, and I’ve never met anyone who could.

Don’t pay a lot of money for snake-oil. If you can’t hear it it doesn’t matter.

In my case, you're 100% right. I'm just looking for something that sounds better than Spotify.

Sonos can only do sample rates of 24/48.  Probably because this is a common sample rate for video.  Think YouTube.

I was on Rhapsody, they renamed Napster and had issues, moved to Amazon, now Amazon unlimited with the Atmos option (look for commercial free to add it) and am very happy

Can't tell any sonic difference in any of the quality settings, just a badge on the screen, Atmos I. An really tell. Ticked at Amazon for making it so hard to find Atmos content, even using the Amazon Music app.

I was using Apple Music for my Atmos fix.  I’m into classical music mostly which usually sounds excellent in Atmos.  Unfortunately after the IOS 18.1.1 update the playlist sorting is ruined because the “By ( Composer Name )” that was shown under the track name has been removed in favor of the performing artist or conductor etc.  If you sort by Artist it screws up the playlist to the point you’ll never be able to find anything.  Chatted with Apple about this and reported on their service site.  A Composer sort option would be nice.

Now back on Amazon Music Unlimited.  Yes…. Atmos is harder to find and some albums are only partially Atmos, but playlist management is better than Apple.

If you are all looking for the best streaming capabilities for two channel music, what would you choose? Price notwithstanding it seems like Tidal, Amazon, and Apple are all relatively the same.

I think I would have to stick with Amazon due to the Dolby Atmos support.  Apple screwed up playlist management or they would be on the list.  I have Apple because it’s part of a family plan.

Had tidal years ago to check out MQA.  Kept finding grayed out tracks in playlists I built.  At times I just had to look for the album that was grayed out and it would be available at which point I had to add it to the playlist again????  Probably a metadata change.

Have Qobuz for the reasonably priced downloads they offer in their download store.  Qobuz does have some gapless issues, but the sound is good.

i do rely more on my library as there are several albums i cannot find on any streaming service.  Also my playlists don’t get mucked around.

Had this back from Tidal. I’ve added a feature request. Anyone else interested should do the same.

Thank you for your follow-up.

We completely understand how important this is feature to you. Unfortunately, we don't offer TIDALConnect support through Sonos at this time. To ensure your request gets in the right hands, please share your request via our feature request form:

What would this do? I understand how Connect works through the Tidal and Spotify apps, but what would this do through the Sonos app....how is it different from the standard tidal/Spotify service integration into the sonos app.

I'm saying i can see and choose my Sonos devices through Connect via the Tidal app ... although it only actually starts playing some of the time. So it seems like it's implemented,  but doesn't work very well.

Yeah, that’s not Tidal connect. Just some half baked implementation

Wow...an email today from Tidal is sure misleading. They sure make it sound like Connect works. Funny though,  if you filter on "connect" the Sonos option does disappear.
