What is going on with Sonos? Has it been taken over by a bunch of grifters. The S1 app was useless and now after making its customers suffer through the S1 They have come up with the S2. Which won't even let me sign in on Android, but will ask me for money, so that I might be able at some time in the future to actually use the speakers I purchased ... this is a class action in the waiting .. Sonos for some reason can make speakers, but not a control system

Huh?
Sounds like the wrong App - the Sonos App is ‘free’ - no purchase is needed to use the software with Sonos hardware.
No issue with my Sonos App here.
if you only have a Play:3, you don’t need the S2 app anyway. (Not sure in what way the S1 was/is ‘useless’...)
Hi Rhonny, Maybe you were lucky. And maybe Sonos only design its apps for Apple products. But my Android experience with SONOS is very frustrating .. Volume control is haphazard at best. Changing Radio stations is not possible mostly, without first going to spotify or some other tasks. there are lots more bugs in the system that prevented me enjoying the experience and recommending it to others. i could not recommend sonos products to anyone
If I were you I would put in a call to Sonos support - they have access to all the tools to analyse what is not working properly with your set-up, and can advise on what to do to sort it out.
Android works fine with Sonos (I use the Sonos apps for Android, iOS and Mac), so I think rather than others being lucky, I think you might need to adjust something to have it work properly for you.
I use Android, iOS and Windows PC Sonos Apps and I have both S1/S2 systems and not having any difficulties with any of the Apps, or Sonos speakers, so I suspect it’s ‘perhaps’ a local issue, or maybe faulty hardware. I think getting in touch with Sonos Support via the below link is worth a shot and perhaps see what they say about the matter your encountering…

Besides calling support, Sonos has a support site that is filled with information on network requirements and fixes for issues users may come across.
You should start with network requirements found here:
https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/sonos-system-requirements
Make sure there are no unsupported devices in your network and turn off any VPN in use.
Hope this helps.
I hate to be the guy to say this, but once again, it sounds like a network issue.
Argh! You’ve pulled the pin…!
Folks get so defensive when you say that, better to dodge the usual response by saying "Looks like Sonos is having issues with some of the things it is trying to do on your network."
Sonos is paying a heavy price in customer satisfaction by pushing local networking requirements beyond the pretty minimall level most devices need.
From my experience, network audio has always required a good network. TRC’s HD audio, Sonance and Control 4 all require special switches to prevent loops that will crash your network. Sonos did it with the Bridge and Boost which made setup on networks that were not so robust easier for the majority of users. Although I have confidence in my UniFi networks WIFI, I still have my Play 1 as well as my Amp, Five and Arc hardwired, and everything just works.
IMO, purchasing good, somewhat expensive speakers and skimping on what makes them work well, is like buying a sports car and trying to use E-85 fuel in it.

Or buying an expensive amplifier and passive speakers and using $0.99 RCA interconnect cables and door bell wire for the speakers.
To be fair, it’s not that anyone with issues is necessarily skimping on their system. They are given a router by their ISP and, not unreasonably, would expect it to work with any modern technological device that needs to connect to it.
I’ve always maintained no-one should have to adjust anything on their router to get Sonos to work - but I have also maintained that if people are having issues that they should be open to the fact that they might need to adjust something their end (so they can be an equal with all of us “Sonos shills”, am I right?).
But because most people would consider themselves technical luddites, the response is usually aggressive and retaliatory, angry through their belief that they wouldn’t know what to do on a router - rather than agreeing that maybe, just maybe, they could take a look and see if it might be a small setting to be enabled or disabled, if only to rule it out...

Over the years I have offered to walk a user through reserving DHCP addresses, requesting only the make and model of their routers. The majority outright refused, expressing the aggressive and retaliatory anger you cite. The very few who put their anger aside and accepted my help were all quite pleased with the result.
well i agree , partially. i can buy another system, and when i open the app, i can connect to it and the app will work immediately, i can play music or listen to the radio. but that is not the case with Sonos. for the last two years witrh the S1 app, i mostly could not change from one radio station to another without first having to go to and switch to spotify first.
Now with S2 I cant even log into Sonos App. So even if I was a techie and knew what to do I can’t.
If I buy a new car, I dont need to be a mechanic to drive it. It works for everyone. Not so with Sonos. it has to be plug and play. it is not
