Streaming music from my phone to Sonos Amp

Hello

Is there any way of streaming music directly from my phone to Sonos Amp?

I've looked at:

a usb c to RCA cable with DAC from my phone to the Amp

a usb c to DAC and then from DAC to Amp

And a Bluetooth receiver to RCA plugged into the Amp

Not sure which one will give me the best results and whether they'd work.

Any thoughts and help appreciated.

Thanks

Likely you just need to turn up the output on your phone. Sonos Line ins are expecting a line level, not variable, input. Conversely, you may need to adjust the line in sensitivity in the Line in settings, as explained in:

Not sure why you’re including a DAC, it isn’t needed, the iPhone’s headphone output (these days via USB-C) is a standard headphone output. Usually, a standard headphone adapter, plugged in to the iPhone, connected to a 3.5mm headphone cable, to a RCA output would connect to your Amp.

If you can, skip the Bluetooth. While it would work, Bluetooth is know for compression of the signal, for bandwidth issues.

Skip the DAC, you should be fine.

Ah, sorry. Perhaps I was projecting. :). Does this device have a headphone port, or just the USB-C port?

Not as familiar these days with Android, I stopped using them when I left Thailand, years ago, but I doubt any ‘player’ you use would play music in a format that a DAC would recognize. Normally, a phone just outputs headphone (variable rate analog data, not digitized) for use.

More specifically, Google (Android) and Apple have both removed the ability to use your phone as a ‘drive’, so Sonos can’t directly access the data there, since the acting device is the Sonos speaker, and not the controller. Which is why you’re forced to use the headphone output, and a ‘player’ on the phone.

Not an ideal situation for Sonos, I fear, and I’d be willing to bet there were a lot of discussions between Sonos and those parties, but as near as I can tell, both considered it a potential hole for hacking data, and consequently removed the ability for outside apps/devices from reaching in to the OS to grab data. Which is what Sonos used to be able to do, in the early days, with their own ‘play from this device’ function, which no longer works.

Hi Bruce.

Right so I've cobbled together a setup with a usb-c to 3.5mm headphone splitter (it's the only cable I have) and have plugged in a 3.5mm jack to RCA with the RCA into the Sonos Amp and it works! The only problem is the volume is lower than normal. It's not as amplified. Could this be my setup i.e just need to get a proper usb c to RCA cable?

Doesn't Google sell a Pixel USB to analog 3.5 mm adaptor?

Answering myself, Amazon lists several pages of them.

https://www.amazon.com/USB-C-3-5mm-Audio-Headphone-Adapter/dp/B0D7VYL4X1/ref=sr_1_1_sspa

Available in the handy 2800 pack,  or just 2.
