a quick question for those in the know, I am thinking of upgrading my Sonos system at the moment. I have several ZP 100 A around the house which have worked perfectly well for years but a remodel of the house and a wish to have more flexibility where to put speakers without wires, et cetera has made us trial some Sonos fives and era 300s. not impressed with the errors, but the fives would do the job. However, I have a lot of albums stored on a network storage device which at the moment streams to my current system through a ZP 80. Would a port replace this and allow me to stream those albums from the network storage device to other Sonos equipment.
any advice would be appreciated.

@flattbus

You won‘t need any device like an old ZP model or a Port at all to stream your music from a NAS device. Just add it via smb share (Sonos S2 needs at least smb2… so check your NAS) as a music library within your Sonos system via Sonos app or desktop controller.
If you use the ZP for analogue signal input and maybe also for cabled signal output to other non Sonos devices, the Port indeed will be the correct replacement.

Really appreciate the reply Can I show my ignorance “ amber” is please?

I did try to look for the hard drive via my new Sonos app and couldn’t see it. The Naz Drive is plugged into the router so ought to be visible everywhere but from memory I couldn’t see it on the old system without having the ZP 80 plugged into it directly?

@flattbus

Does your NAS support SMB2 ?

Here’s all you need to get your NAS drive shared to Sonos:

Nothing has to be directly connected to the NAS. The NAS simply needs to be connected to your network.

Have a look at this page from the Sonos’ support site for more information:

Thanks for your help, everybody. I will give it a bash.
