What should I do?

I got 2 Sonos Symfonisk lamps as a gift.  I was excited!  I had heard such great things about Sonos speakers.  However, little did I know… I can’t add Spotify as a service and I can’t use voice control (a function I was looking forward to).  Spotify is my main concern.  I contacted support to figure it out, and they said Spotify is not supported in my region.  I live in South Korea, for the record.  I’ve been using Spotify for years.  My family also uses Spotify.  We’re also a Samsung family (again… we’re in South Korea) so Apple Airplay is not an option.  The only thing I could do is subscribe to Apple music, but that means I have to convince my family to switch services as well, forsaking years of playlists and song curation.  If I could at least connect to the speakers directly via Spotify, that would be more than enough for me.  In fact, that would be ideal.  However, that doesn’t work either!

Make it make sense!

You may want to contact Spotify. They are the ones who give legal consent to Sonos to carry the stream in South Korea. Sonos can’t carry a stream where they haven’t been given legal authority to do so.

I’m ahead of you there.  They said there should be no problem from their end.

Interesting. Thanks for the update.

If the Sonos app won’t let you add Spotify as a service (which seems odd), then just use Spotify Connect to play music on your speakers. Open Spotify, start playing music, then select the Sonos speakers using the speaker icon. It will play on your speakers. You can then use voice commands (talking to your phone) to control the music.

If as you say this doesn’t work then I wonder if you have actually set the speakers up properly? Do they both appear on your Sonos app when you tap the name of your system top left on the Sonos app Home Screen?

(Even if you could connect your Spotify to the Sonos app, the IKEA speakers don’t have voice control anyway so if it’s voice control you want, just use Spotify Connect as directed.)

UPDATE
: I’ve just read that Spotify really isn’t supported on Sonos in South Korea. Spotify’s decision, not Sonos, as suggested earlier.

You’ve no choice but to join another music service that is supported. You can find apps that will transfer all your playlists to the new music service so you don’t need to forego any playlist curation you’ve done over the years.

Again, though, if you want voice control you’ll need to Airplay or cast from your phone.
