sonos system

Persistent system problems. The beauty of Sonos since I bought my first speaker over 10 years ago was that after setup it just worked.  Now it’s a lottery every time I open the app whether the system will be recognised and it takes an inordinate amount of time to do so. Today I wanted a quick listen to a radio show but more than one minute after opening the app there was still no sign of my system and gave up.

When it does eventually recognise the system and I start to play some speakers are completely silent and then burst into life halfway through a song randomly.

I have reset the speakers too many times, factory resets etc. the environment hasn’t changed - the wifi hasn’t changed. Sonos left me which reluctantly means I have to stop buying Sonos products. The very thing that makes it good has gone which was the usp.

I suggest that you avoid additional Factory Reset without further consult with SONOS support or senior Community contributor. As you have discovered, the reset does not usually resolve fundamental issues.

Describe your system for us. Which SONOS controller App are you using? Describe your network for us. Include model numbers.

Whilst it’s possible that nothing in your setup has changed, something in your environment may have done. A different piece of electronic equipment might be causing wifi interference. Or a neighbour has a new router which is now running on the same channel as yours and so causing problems, for example.

Your post suggests that all you’ve tried is speaker resets -which hasn’t affected or changed your wifi setup, and is unlikely to show a different result if you reset a thousand times. Why not try something different?

I appreciate the suggestions and i was not comprehensive in my original post (probably due to frustration).

I have 2 x Play 1

1x one SL

1 x Symfonisk table lamp

running latest update of Sonos iOS app S2.

I have tried lots of other things including rebooting router, reattaching disappearing speakers etc. I’ve read through community discussions carefully trying to diagnose the issues.

There hasn’t been any new electronic equipment to cause interference, router position hasn’t changed and speakers are in same position as they always were.

i suppose my general rant was more a nostalgic longing for my memory of the “set up once, work every time” nature of Sonos. I could fiddle with the settings every time, put up with the delays and non recognition of speakers and the lottery of whether it will work each time I open the app but I bought Sonos to avoid all that.

AirPlay direct from Spotify app is now way more reliable and so I avoid using Sonos app when I can. As the Sonos kit becomes obsolete I’m gradually replacing with non Sonos which is a shame. First 8 years were great, last 2 not so much.

Start here, almost always "nothing changed" turns into "oops, something did change" in the end.

In my case the changed bit was a simple external hard drive. No radio, so I ruled it out. Moving it three feet away from my Sonos got everything working.

If you are still using the same wifi device for 10 years, a neighbour with a newer device may be causing problems for your system. Just rebooting (router and/or Sonos devices) is still not changing infrastructure, which I suspect must be done to resolve your problems.

if someone was asked to build the most frustrating connectivity for a sound system ever then SONOS gets my five stars . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
