Sonos Radio Stations not playing

Suddenly today, a number of Sonos Radio Stations seem to have disappeared.

They still show up as favorites in my ‘sonos favorites’, but when I try to play them - nothing happens.  The ‘>’ play button goes to the stop button symbol.  If I press play, it momentarily shows the play button, then goes back to stop.  There is no error message.

If I delete the favorite, and search for the station on Sonos Radio service, the station shows up, but if I say ‘Play Now’ - nothing happens.

This is affecting:

RNZ Conert

RNZ National

WQXR-FM (But ‘105.9 WQXR ‘ works)

KUSC

WYNZ-FM

Any idea what is going on?

with thanks for your help,

bernt

Good morning everyone - I am seeing the same issue as well.  I believe I have seen this issue before and even commented on another post a while back.  For what it is worth, I think the issue is the favorite or recentlyplayed or Alarm pointing to Sonos Radio versus TuneIn as the radio stations exist in both.  Example from my Sonos WebApp, the station “The Lot Radio” in my recently played - the first one plays - second one does not.

First station is TuneIn and Second is Sonos Radio

Workaround for me is to clear my recently played, but more importantly, delete my previous favorite on the station and bookmark a new favorite from “TuneIn” instead of from Sonos Radio.  I am not sure if that makes sense or not to you all but it might be worthwhile to give it a shot.  I have other stations doing the same thing.  They work after following the process above.

Previous post where this was discussed a while back is here:

Tunein is not working on the Sonos app for any station | Sonos Community

It was actually the opposite scenario back in that post, where TuneIn previously favored stations were not working. It might be worthwhile to submit a diagnostics on this one - this issue actually did appear after I updated yesterday to 85.0-64200.  For now, making new favorites and pointing to TuneIn is working so that I can play the stations I want.

Thanks

Derek

That seems odd. Have you submitted a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and called Sonos Support to discuss it? Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Thank you - I’ve just chatted with Sonos Support.  They are looking into it.

In the meantime, I have to use TuneIn to access these stations.  I prefer to use Sonos Radio, as Sonos Voice control doesn’t work with TuneIn.

Chhers,

You’re not alone. I am currently experiencing the same issue. Have tunein radio as my alarm but it played the Sonos chime instead.

no radio stations play at all despite human intervention to press the play button in my Sonos app.

What did Sonos Support tell you, when you called in?

Hi Airgetlam and DIY242  -

Sonos Support were very responsive, but not able to come up with an immediate solution, other than to use TuneIn to access the stations I wanted.  I submitted diagnostics, and they said they would look into the issue, but I haven’t heard back yet.   They wanted to send me a link to click on so they could see my screen - but I was uncomfortable to give an outside agency a link to my phone.

Two days later, everything seems to be back to normal, so it seems to have been a temporary glitch.

I am still confused by the fact that some stations I select on Sonos Radio carry the ‘Sonos Radio’ badge on the icon, and others have the ‘TuneIn’ icon (even though I am playing them from the Sonos Radio service, not from TuneIn.

The ones that carry the ‘Sonos Radio’ badge work with Sonos Voice Control, but the ones with the ‘TuneIn’ badge don’t.

I am also confused (it seems easy to do that these days!) by what the difference is between the ‘TuneIn’ music service, and the ‘TuneIn (New)’ service?

cheers,

Uptix

Good evening @Uptix - yes, I also noticed the issue went away after a couple of days and both the Tune In and Sonos Radio station play properly now.  I did a google search on the differences between the two stations and AI spit out the following:

Sonos Radio and TuneIn are both platforms for accessing internet radio on Sonos devices, but they offer different levels of content and features. Sonos Radio is a free service included with Sonos systems and offers a curated selection of radio stations, some of which are exclusive to Sonos.TuneIn, on the other hand, has a larger catalog of radio stations and also offers features like premium content and user accounts for personalized listening.

I am not sure that all of it is accurate as I believe both offer a subscription service as well.   I am thinking the Curation piece, is key to Sonos Radio and not to Tune In.

Anyway, I am glad this is all sorted now.

Have a good one!

Thanks

Derek
