Hello!

I'm trying again to get some help here in the forum and solve an ‘age-old’ problem.

I have PLEX installed on my Synology 718+ (16 GB).

The home network is connected to the internet at 1 Gbit (FRITZ!box 5530 fiber).

PLEX plays without any problems:

  • On the home network, also via SONOS (PLEX service)
  • In the car with my mobile phone via the Plexamp app
  • In the office with my mobile phone via the Plexamp app (Wi-Fi)
  • In the office with my laptop using the web application.

PLEX does not play outside the home network via SONOS.

All content is displayed. When trying to play individual songs or albums, the following happens:

  • First, the circle on the right spins for a relatively long time
  • Then the message ‘SONG’ could not be played appears. The connection to Plex has been lost.
  • This repeats for each selected song.

It doesn't matter whether I play FLAC or MP3.

I contacted SONOS Support. A support technician even looked at it via remote maintenance. No solution in sight.

What could be the reason for this error?

I would be grateful if someone

Hello @Brendianer, welcome back!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues using Plex via the Sonos App in your Sonos system.

I had a look in the documentation of your escalated case with our Support Team and may I ask, have you tried the suggested step of creating a test Plex server on your PC?

If that is working fine then the issue most likely lies on the Plex server set on your Synology NAS.

Feel free to reply here with the outcome and I’ll forward the information you provide on your case.

I hope this helps.

Okay. Thanks for responding @Sotiris C. .

That works. Your colleague already tried that.

In the meantime, I tried it from a different location. And lo and behold, it worked. So, in my opinion, it can't be the NAS.

The only question is why it doesn't work from my company network.

Port 32400 is open.

All other services are working: SONOS Radio, TIDAL, TuneIn.

What could it be?

The network is fast enough. The NAS connection is also 1Gbit.

Chippin' in...

@Brendianer is trying to remotely access his Plex server at home in order to initiate playback on his Sonos system at the office. The issue he is running into is the subject of this topic:

https://en.community.sonos.com/components-and-architectural-228999/sonos-unable-to-play-content-from-remote-plex-server-6863273

Apparently, the issue has still not been solved.

It's a real shame that no one is addressing this issue.

I have several SONOS installations. PLEX works on some of them, but not on others.

It can't be a network issue.

In my opinion, it must have something to do with the SONOS/PLEX integration.
