Ok so playlist editing is back… sort of.  Unfortunately you can add songs, albums to a list or create a new list.  But you can no longer play that list😳

Before last weeks update I could see my playlists under Favourites, but now they have gone.
Is there any testing done before releases and do those who do the testing actually know how to use the system?

Have you updated the system as well as the app?

And quit the app and reopened it?

Yes, this isn’t my first rodeo 😁

Full network restart and power cycle of all devices. All up to date, the HT products are on a later build it seems.
Still no playlist in favourites.

It’s probably your network /s

I’m not sure this community knows exactly what was ‘included’ in Sonos announcement in their release notes. You may be better off submitting  a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and calling Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

It might be interesting to know what they were told about the release. And at the least, your information in that diagnostic could be handed off to the coders.

Well they are back, the playlists that is. Nothings changed but I assume the roll out is in stages. Odd that they were there and then not for a few hours.
Seems they work well now, this on iPad and iPhone. 😎

No clue, but I’m glad they’re back. Must have been more effort than originally expected.

Is that their tagline?

SONOS.

More Effort Than Originally Expected.

If you’ve worked in software, you often are not a fan of deadlines, as the work often uncovers unexpected difficulties. I was surprised to see Sonos state a ‘we’ll have it reinstalled by’ date, especially as it seems the entire system was rewritten in a new language. More extensible, I’d hope, for the future, but having been on teams that have done similar efforts, I’m more than familiar with the dreaded ‘oh, this doesn’t work the way we thought it would, we have to replan and implement our approach’ aspect. Fortunately, most of our efforts were behind the scenes, Sonos doesn’t seem to have been that lucky, and the situation hasn’t likely increased their desire to promise dates in the future. Bugs are a terror.

Makjng this POS system work over the past 11 months has absolutely taken “More Effort Than Originally Expected.

I have two Samsung S20fe, both have the same SONOS build level. One I can create a Playlist the other I cannot. I've reloaded the app but still the same. Any ideas?

It will just take time (a few more days?) as Sonos is gradually activating playlist management, even if you’re seeing the same build number.

I agree with you completely. You may recall my system has worked well throughout the debacle period, so my ‘tagline’ note was just a low-hanging, easy prey joke.

Can I just clarify with someone who has the latest update - can you create and then save a new Sonos playlist? Can you then delete or rearrange the order of some tracks and then save the revised playlist?

Somehow, after all this time, I managed to miss the announcement that playlist editing had finally been updated. These are functions I use almost every day, and the reason I have not updated my system in months. I had only done the May 2024 update on one device, but left the old app on my other devices and have still been using that. I did keep doing the app updates on the one device, but it’s not actually usable because I avoided doing the required firmware update. I’d like to finally update everything if playlist editing is actually back.

Yes you can do it all. Create new, edit existing, reorder tracks within playlists and all other options. There are no compromises, thankfully.

Thank you for letting me know, and I’m very happy to hear this. I’ll try to update everything sometime this week and keep my fingers crossed!

@Trad99

For me the new (old) Sonos playlist option works quite well an supports all that I need.
But as some users reported functionality isn’t 1:1 the same as before with old Sonos playlists. What I heard you can’t ad the playback queue to a Sonos playlists and the same is with folders from music library.
Imho minor things that probably not many people will miss.

I’m not sure I follow what you said here. With the old app, if there’s a playlist in the queue, I can add another playlist to the end of the queue, and then save all the tracks together to one playlist. Can that be done now since the latest app update?

That’s exactly what I was talking about.
Unfortunately at the moment this isn’t possible. There is no „add to Sonos playlist“ option for the queue.
I don’t know, if it’s gone forever or perhaps comming back with further updates.
But as said for me it’s not important… I would add Playlists, tracks or albums directly to a Sonos playlist. For me there’s no need to go via the queue. But I know there are users thinking different.
