My Sonos playlists disappeared with the new and “ improved” App. They never returned. I thought that they were going to return. Does anyone know what is going on?
Sonos has changed the way that their new app accesses audio from shared libraries on the local network. The previous S2 App supported SMBv1 and HTTP protocols for file sharing, but these have known vulnerabilities and are no longer used by Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon etc. and all has now shifted to using SMBv2 (or higher) file sharing. You may need to upgrade your shares… see these links depending on how you share your library tracks…
For MacOS users, see this thread.
For Windows users, see this thread.
Sonos sent out notices both in the S2 app, and in email, about these changes. They also updated the FAQ to reflect the update. While they have stated that the local library system continues to be worked on, I do not expect them to resume use of http or SMB v1, so if your computer uses them, I’d recommend re-adding your share, as is indicated in the controller, where it says ‘We’ve made security changes to supported libraries. You may need to re-add your library”.
If you’re having trouble finding this area in your controller, open the S2 controller, click on the gear icon at the upper right of the screen, then the word ‘Manage’ under it. Next, click on ‘Music Library’, and the page to enter/modify your local library will come up.
If you continue to have issues, I would recommend that you call Sonos Support to discuss it.
Do you have SonoPhone or SonoPad or Phonos Plus for IOS. These are Sonos replacement apps. Your Sonos Playlists may show in one of those apps. Don’t know what’s available for android.
Mine show in Sonos Favorites.
Hi
Thanks for your post!
Sorry to hear that you’ve been unable to find your playlists in the Sonos app.
Your playlists will now show within the Favourites section of the app, unlike before when they had their own section.
I hope this helps.
Cory, I tried that. Unfortunately they are not there.
Hi
Understood.
In that case, please try a reset of the Sonos app: User icon » App Preferences » Reset App » Reset.
Once done, reopen the app and opt to connect to an existing system, and log in to your Sonos account. If you still don’t see your playlists there, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.
I hope this helps.
After 50 minutes chat I discovered my missing Playlists are in fact there under Favourites - after I have clicked on Favourites - as they are not part of the display marked Palylists. Silly me.
However I don’t seem to be able to add to the Playlists already created or create a new one - I used to click the 3 dots when a song was playing and chose form the options. My options are now
Save to Sonos Favourite - if i choose the 3 vertical bars on the left then the 3 horizontal dots or
Pin Collection to Home; Crossfade; Sleep time if I choose the 3horizontal dots to the right
Hitting save to favourites - not what I want anyway - gives ‘something went wrong message’
Any help with creating / adding to be appreciated. I used to enjoy Sonos so much - not of late.
Hi
Apologies - creating Playlists from within the new Sonos app is not yet possible, but will be coming soon. Please use the Desktop controller for MacOS or Windows in the meantime, if that is an option for you.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for a very prompt reply - it has helped my sanity as it explains why I've failed to achieve what I want to do with Playlists using various Apple Devices.
However, any confidence in Sonos being a ‘user friendly’ state of the art and enjoyable music system continues to diminish.
When I first got Sonos, some time ago, living with the Sonos service and system was relatively straightforward. “Improvements” have made navigation and use more difficult rather than easier.
The start screen needs simplified to be more intuitive and slicker to use. An example is the immediate display of Sonos Favourites - this is merely a selection of favourites and does not include an immediate link to, eg, Playlists. These, or a link to them, should be prominent and not accessible by clicking on favourites and then further navigation.
Restoring the manipulation of Playlists through Sonos Apps should surely have been a priority, or indeed should have delayed any App Upgrade until thoroughly tested to ensure no detriment to existing users, not all of whom are technically fully competent.
Thank you again. I now await the “upgrade’.
My Sonos playlists disappeared with the new and “ improved” App. They never returned. I thought that they were going to return. Does anyone know what is going on?

I tried this and it did not work, or at least it does not seem like it worked. The reset completed without any issue but I see no evidence of playlists. Where should I be able to find them?

OK. I see. It’s now under Favorites. I guess it’s still the same number of clicks as when it was alongside Albums, Artists, etc. in Sources. Good enough.
