Hello out there in Sonos World,

I have a beautiful sounding (and looking!) Sonos system with a play base, two rear speakers and a sub-woofer. The system is about 5 years old.

When I recently returned to my Florida home after a lengthy stay in Michigan, my Sonos system would not play any of the songs in my iTunes library. I tried updating my iTunes library on the Sonos system with no luck. In fact, the iTunes library was eliminated from Sonos’s menu of service options.

Four sessions with Sonos tech support did not help. None of the agents, although they were very courteous and tried very hard, could not make the iTunes library work on Sonos. One of the agents suggested I switch from iTunes to Apple Music. I did that with only some success. While the Sonos system now at least recognizes Apple Music on its menu options, the vast majority of the songs will not play on Sonos. The songs that won't play show a gray circle with a line through them (please see attached photo). The same is true whether I use the Sonos app on my PC, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Before this problem started I was able to play every one of my 11,000 songs in my iTunes library on Sonos. Why did the Sonos system all of a sudden not play my iTunes library and why is it now completely recognizing the Apple Music library?

Each Sonos agent I spoke with was courteous and dogged and tried  very hard to fix the problem. No luck. My case (it was opened on Oct. 28 and the number is ********) now has been escalated  from Level 2 to something called the Sonos Engineering team, but I have not heard from an agent at this level yet to set up an appointment.

I am hopeful and confident that you will be able to get the right people at Sonos to fix this problem. I look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully and with best regards,

Daniel

Daniel- I have had a similar problem. Moved into a new house 18 months ago and added a terrific SONOS system via whole house audio, ARC, BEAM, Move, Amps, etc. Some of my Apple music library songs would not play through the SONOS app although visible and would play outside the SONOS app and system.

I can however play all my Apple Music Library through our SONOS system by using  Apple Air Play. I found the following posted by Apple Support:

To use AirPlay to play music, you can do the following:

  1. Ensure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and your speakers or Apple TV are connected to the same network
  2. Open the music app on your device and select a song to play
  3. Open Control Centre on your device
  4. Tap AirPlay
  5. Select the speaker or TV you want to play the music on

You can also adjust your AirPlay & Continuity settings to automatically connect to devices you use regularly. To do this, you can:

  1. Go to Settings on your device
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap AirPlay & Continuity
  4. Select Automatically AirPlay
  5. Choose a setting

I hope this works for you. R/Terry

I had this problem on MacBook Pro

“ Unable to add the shared folder “\\computerhostname”\Music to your music library (913)

I got it resolved by speaking to SONOS rep   After making sure all my shared file settings were correct,….. In the Sonos App on MacBook

Manage

  • Music Library Setting
  •  +
  • Click NETWORKED DEVICE ex NAS drive  !!!!!!!!!!!
  • enter  \\IP address of computer\Music  e.g. \\###.###.1.161/music

I did not get the error message, instead a spinning pinwheel and eventually all my Albums, Imported Playlists etc were loaded, just like the good old days
