For some unknown reason when I clicked on my fave ABC radio station this morning Sonos wouldn’t play it. It’s playing Spotify no problem. Help!

If (stressed), the station is set up as a ‘fave’, it will point to the old connection/streaming company. By setting up a new ‘fave’, you’d get the newer, and correct stream.

Try removing the ‘fave’, and then setting it up again.

In this case, does ABC stand for American Broadcasting Corporation, or Australian Broadcasting Corporation? Can you be specific about which particular station, and which streaming system within Sonos you’re using?

Thanks Bruce. It is the Australian Broadcasting Commission. I have found that if I go in via the abc listen app and then click on where I want it to play through Sonos it works but doesn’t work when I go through the Sonos app.

I’ve just contacted the ABC as I’ve been having the same issue. Here’s the response I received:

The ABC removed all Local Radio from TuneIn last week.

We are, however still on RadioApp, which is available within the SONOS system. It's the same idea as TuneIn or iHeart, but domestic, and consistent with our broadcasting obligations. So, find RadioApp in your SONOS app, and you'll find ABC Perth in there.

Thanks to your responses Andrew and Bruce, problem solved and my fave ABC stations through RadioApp are now in my Sonos favourites and playing straight from the Sonos app. Thanks again! 🤩

RadioApp doesn’t show up on my Sonos system. I’m in Thailand using VPN connected to Australia.

Start here

Then

You might have the wrong Sonos settings to allow you to meet their requirements.

Apparently RadioApp is only available in Australia and my VPN set to Australia isn’t recognised. RadioApp just doesn’t show up as an service option.

Sonos uses your information, stored at www.sonos.com, on your account, to filter what you see as ‘available’ streamers. I don’t think they look at VPN settings.  Try changing the address associated with your account. It might change things…or it might not, but the effort is probably worth it. No promises, mind you.

Thanks Bruce, but it didn’t help.

Not a huge fan of VPNs for changing location data, but you may want to call Sonos Support to discuss it. That being said, it may be that the RadioApp plug in uses a different form of recognition as to where the device is. I don’t think there’s any rules on how they enforce their own legal requirements. And unfortunately, if they have copyrighted content that they don’t have authorization to play outside Australia, they may be blocking it in one of many ways, so they don’t get sued.

Well, I can’t get the aged pension because I don’t live in Australia now so I guess it’s just another blow.

I hear you. I enjoyed the several months I lived in Bangkok, it’s a lovely country. Fond memories of renting a motorbike and visiting various locations in the south.

Even though I’d set up several Sonos and Apple video products in my hotel, (with all the associated attempts to get the hotel to whitelist on their network, then finally setting up a travel router for use) I wasn’t able to get F1 on the BBC feed while I was there. This was many years ago, and F1 was on ESPN and at the time DirecTV was satellite only, so I had no access via Apple TV either.
