Hi all.

I have Sonos S1 equipment.  I got a new CD which I ripped to Itunes, updated my Sonos library and went to play but the sound was really distorted. I tested the CD in a seperate CD player and the disc is faulty.  I deleted it from Itunes and bought another copy which works fine. It’s ripped to Itunes, Sonos library updated and plays fine, however Sonos is now showing that along with the new one the original faulty one is still in my library, which it isn’t?  It even plays the faulty version somehow if I select it?  I’ve checked my Itunes library and only the new one is there, but to be on the safe side I’ve deleted it then added it again several times, and updated my Sonos library 4 or 5 times, but the phantom CD is still there - any ideas how I get rid if it?  Any help gratefully appreciated.

Check any trash folders you have.  If they are in the path and still contain the deleted file, it will be added to your library.

IIRC when I used iTunes, there is an option when you remove item to delete the actual file(s) along with removing from iTunes, I think the default is to remove the iTunes item and not delete the actual file.

Thanks for the reply, I deleted it from my recycle bin, updated my library again but it’s still there?

‘Recycle Bin’ suggests you are running iTunes on Windows.

If you have done a Music Library re-index on Sonos, the file(s) must still be located under the ‘Shared Folder’

Hi, yes, Windows 11 laptop. I’ve deleted the faulty cd from Itunes, from my Itunes library, from the Recycle Bin, the only folder for this album in my Itunes library now is the new one.  I’ve searched my laptop and only the new one shows up. There’s no trace of the faulty one apart from in Sonos. When you say the shared folder what/where do you mean?

I’ve removed my entire library and readded it to Sonos, the offending album is still there! Apologies I’m not very technically minded so I don’t understand the link above.  As far as I can tell it’s nowhere on my laptop so I don’t know where Sonos is finding it.

If the offending album still plays in Sonos, then the file(s) will still be on your laptop. Sonos can’t play a file that doesn't exist.

Use Windows Search or Windows Explorer to find the file(s):

I’m no longer a Windows user but the advice you’ve received is excellent. There are only two other very remote possibilities:

  1. You have another profile on your computer
  2. You share your PC with another family member (with a profile) and have engaged Family Share for iTunes. However, this is typically engaged for members to share iTunes on their own PC. This link deals with Family Share.

Thank you so much @craigski, success! Used File Explorer and for some reason it was in there but didn’t show up anywhere else. Now removed and all good. Thank you again.

Thanks to the others who made suggestions too, much appreciated!
