Hi everyone,

I’m running into a strange issue with the Sonos Controller app. When I make changes (like adding songs to a queue, adjusting volume, or grouping rooms) on my phone, the updates don’t always sync to the Controller app on my tablet or desktop. Sometimes it takes a long time to refresh, and other times it doesn’t sync at all unless I force close the app and restart it. I’ve already tried reinstalling the app on both devices, checked that everything is on the same Wi-Fi network, and confirmed both controllers are running the latest version. Still, the problem keeps happening. Has anyone else experienced this syncing issue between different controllers? Is there a setting I might be overlooking, or could this be related to my router/network setup? Please assist as I am not a technical person. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

What plaform(s) are you running the apps on?

Usually this kind of problem is caused by an iffy local network. Please describe what you have.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’m running the Sonos Controller app on an Android phone and a Windows 11 desktop, and occasionally I also use a Samsung Galaxy Tab. All of them are on the same Wi-Fi network. My router is a Netgear Nighthawk RAX45 with the ISP-provided modem/ONT in bridge mode. Other devices on the network don’t seem to have connectivity issues, so that’s why I was a bit confused when only the Sonos apps go out of sync. Do you think this could be caused by a router setting, like multicast or something similar, that I might need to check?

The data represented in the controller is polled from the speakers. If the speakers are having a hard time maintaining connection to your router, it’s feasible for your controller to get ‘out of date’, by not being properly synced.

I’d be looking for reasons why your speakers are having trouble maintains a solid connection with your LAN, followed by your controller running devices. Could be mesh issues, more likely wifi interference.

Thanks for clarifying that, I didn’t realize the controllers actually poll the speakers directly for updates. That makes more sense now why they can get out of sync if the connection isn’t solid. I’ll take a closer look at the speaker side of things and not just the apps themselves. My setup isn’t a mesh, just the Netgear Nighthawk RAX45 router, but there could definitely be Wi-Fi interference since I have a lot of devices on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. I’ll experiment with adjusting the Wi-Fi channel and placement of the speakers to see if that helps stabilize the connection.

Happy to help. If you call Sonos Support to discuss it, they have access to data that you and I don’t, if you submit it, which might help identify potential issue.
