Ever since the new controller app came out, it has been virtually impossible to control the volume of individual speakers in a large group (having to scroll to find the desired speaker). The problem is a countdown timer that doesn't restart when scrolling, causing the detailed view to collapse before you get a chance to adjust individual volume. I have to say I'm very surprised this hasn't been discovered and fixed in the many updates since the 2024 disaster update. Will this be addressed soon?

Hi @roaandersen

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the volume control in the Sonos app.

I’ve tried this in my system, both under ‘Your System’ and in the grouping section, but neither seem to time out for me and stay on the screen until I tap away. Are you able to record a video of this issue and share it with me here on the community?

As well as a video, some troubleshooting steps I would suggest are:

  • Trying with a different device to see if this issue still occurs.
  • Restarting the device running the Sonos app.
  • Resetting the Sonos app.

Please let me know if any of these steps help.

Thank you for the reply Jamie.

Yes, I’ve tried all the above.

Attached is a screen recording where I’m trying to scroll down to desired speaker two times. No success.

The android devices I have avaiable are Samsung Galaxy S20 and S24.

Here is a link to the short video.

Hi @roaandersen,

Thanks for the video, I’ll be honest that I forgot tapping the volume slider itself was also an option.

I tested this on my device as was able to replicate so I reached out to our engineers who let me know the three second timer is intended. Trying to change volume of a device from that menu does reset this timer until you let go of the slider, though it’s not very convenient to scroll your system while changing volume to prevent the menu from minimizing.

I’ll mark this thread as a feature request, either to remove the timer or to increase the timer itself. For now, I’d recommend either using the grouping icon or swiping up from the bottom of the screen to change volume. These options are available on the main screen and don’t timeout when open: the grouping icon lets you change each speaker’s volume in a group individually, while swiping up shows one slider per group of your Sonos system.

I hope this information helps!

Thanks Jamie, for suggesting a future fix for this. I hope it will happen soon.

Here are some thoughts (info) on the matter:

  • It's not very intuitive to have to tap the grouping icon to adjust volume.
  • In the grouping window, adjusting individual volume works fine, but the mute buttons are not there.
  • The intuitive thing is to tap the volume slider - not a grouping icon to adjust volume.
In this view (tapping volume slider), also the mute buttons are available.
This is how the controller has always been prior to version 80.0. It is in this view that the timeout timer is not reset by scrolling - only by volume adjustments. In the Sonos controller for iOS this is fixed, and works perfectly, but not for Android.

Sonos finally fixed the issue with the individual volume controls in the Android app (version 80.18.23).
Thank you. I'm very happy 😀
