Since updating my Macbook Air to Tahoe [now at 26.3.1]  the SONOS app fails to find SONOS on my local network until i open  System Setting>Privacy & Security>Local Network  and then turn the SONOS app setting off and back on. This situation as occurred in with past updates and was eventually patched, but this time it seems to be taking a long time. Any suggestions for something I’m missing on my end?

The “local network” option in MacOS is very poorly implemented by Apple (as it also was on iOS years ago). It loses the state after OS and app updates, it reports the wrong state, etc.

To ensure it is really on, you must always toggle its state. And remember to do this after every OS or app update.

Some Sonos apps (eg mine) actually detect when it is off and give a useful message. Other apps (eg Sonos official apps) just silently fail to find any devices.

It’s an issue with Apple’s implementation of local network permissions. You might want to ask them, as Sonos, as near as I can tell, is honoring the settings properly. If you do a search for this on the forums here, you’ll find a previous thread or two.

Appreciate your insights, I searched the forums however my choice of terms was probably poor as little was returned. I’ll try posting on at Apple help and look for a response on their end.

The search function is poor, in my perception, but it has been discussed. I’d be interested in what you find out from Apple.

An external search tools often better than the one the forum offers.

Use the site option below to just search here:

OK, so I now consulted my low/no paid IT department, ChatGPT and “they” promptly provided six steps to try.  #4 best suited my narrow technical capabilities. This seems to have fixed things, however time will tell.  Those affordable IT folks say I need not take this personally, it’s a feature others experience.
