Before I take the plunge with Sonos tech support, can anyone offer advice re. why my Sonos app for the iPhone 16 will no longer allow input to play music from the Music Library stored on my PC? It appears I can select and play music from my library through the Sonos web app but not from my phone. I can stream content from the app through my Sonos speakers but the library won't play from the app even though it sees all content on my phone.
I realise that the adoption of SMBv3 might be responsible for this issue. I have a huge library of music on iTunes and the ability to play that directly, vs. streaming, through Sonos speakers was the main reason I invested in Sonos hardware in the first place, several years ago. I suspect Sonos does not care about this failure; there’s no money for them in direct network sharing. A Wifi expert has often urged me to get Apple Music, which can reproduce my library for streaming but I’d then have to cancel Spotify, on which I have built many playlists over fifteen years but which would then be redundant.
I’d really appreciate know what thoughts there are here before I call Sonos tech support and get given the runaround, i.e. no proper acknowledgement of the problem, futile advice to uninstall/reinstall everything, etc. Needless to say, the app is fully up to date, ditto my Sonos firmware and the shared folder route on my PC can find my Sonos system as intended, it’s just that the app won’t take input from my music library.
I’d realty value some wisdom/assistance with this so that I can avoid wasting time and effort with Sonos and determine if there is even a viable solution. Thank you.
