Sonos app can't find a Sonos system

Can you answer a few questions so that members here can suggest the best troubleshooting steps?

1. What type of router/network do you have?
2. Do you use any extenders, VPN or powerline adapters?
3. Do you live in an apartment building with many WIFI radios around?
4. Have you applied the latest updates to the app and speakers?
5. Are you able to hardwire one of the speakers to your network for troubleshooting? (This is to rule out WIFI interference)

1. A sky wifi router
2. No

4. Yes to the app, not sure on the speakers as the app can’t find them!
5. Not without unplugging the speaker and taking to the router

I should also add that I can play through the speakers from the desktop browser app, so this is very definitely a problem with the app, as so many seem to experience

I will do this, but what should really happen is that Sonos fix this properly, so that it doesn’t require you to have to jump through these hoops to connect to their speakers.

Spend $4 for the SonoPhone app. Has a couple hundred 5 star ratings. Works great.

I’m fed up of every update screwing up something else. Like op I’ve lost all my system and nothing works. I don’t want to reboot everything, unplug, turn off, turn on and whisper magic incantations every time the app updates. Yeah I’ve got nothing better to do with my time.

I JUST WISH IT WOULD WORK LIKE IT DID BEFORE THIS DISASTER OF AN APP UPDATE 

You know, if you set reserved IP addresses on your router for your Sonos devices, you don’t need to reboot the router each time it loses the IP settings at a firmware update…

Would it surprise you to know that I’ve had fixed IP addresses for all my SONOS speakers for years (this isn’t my first rodeo with SONOS)…..

At times I find that the system seems impatient. I’ll start the controller and see the “System not found” message, but if I wait a few seconds everything is discovered.

That’s the new normal (prior to the May update everything appeared almost instantly). But since the last update a lot of users including me are finding that their devices randomly disappear and reappear.

And let’s be clear. Since May last year, a very large number of users have had barely functioning systems despite various promises that everything would be fixed before the end of  the year. 

As part of the update SONOS has started using some of the latest network and WiFi technology. Some networks do not support this. Router defaults may be at issue and an update of the router’s settings will mitigate. 

Thanks for the info. However I’ve just installed a brand new router so it’s unlikely to be this.

But do SONOS expect their users to update their network to run their speakers? We already had the fiasco of moving from S1 to S2 that bricked some SONOS devices.

Amazon seem to be able to do just about everything that SONOS can do without any issues. Yes the speaker quality isn’t as good but their software/hardware doesn’t constantly cause problems. 

Which model router?

When in diagnostic mode, if you assume that the issue must be [ … ] or cannot be [ … ], you are likely to be blindsided.

The router is irrelevant. The problem occurred with both routers (different routers, different internet provider).

But even if it was a router issue, it seems that nowadays with SONOS you have to be an IT expert  to keep the system running. It used to be relatively simple. I wonder how many people who don’t know about forums and have limited technical skills have just given up?
