I don’t understand quite how none of these three things manage to truly work together or deliver on their promise. I tell myself it’s great that these things work together at all. But more often than not:

  • Airplaying to multiple speakers in Mac Music doesn’t work reliably. Even when they do connect to 3+ simultaneous sources, they often cut out.
  • Meanwhile, in the Sonos app it is far more reliable connecting to speakers, even after playback has started somewhere else. But then I can’t see all my playlists — some are missing even after reauthorizing.
  • So I’m forced to do things like start music in Mac Music, then switch over to Sonos to make sure that it’s playing where I want. Because I can’t reliably use airplay there to start playback on multiple speakers. Usually it taps out after two sources.

Is that because the Sonos App isn’t leveraging airplay at all, instead its own internal 2.4GHz network? Why wouldn’t Sonos be able to see all my playlists?

Hello @monoiantm, welcome back!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with audio interruptions on your Sonos system while using AirPlay and also missing Playlists.

What is the source content you are using for those Playlists? Are they Sonos Playlists, or playlists from the Mac Music library?

There are a few troubleshooting steps you can take, if not done already:

  • Force-close the Sonos App and re-launch it.
  • Make sure the Sonos App is on the latest update version. You can download it from our official page Download the Sonos App.
  • Refresh the network connection by rebooting all networking devices involved. Start with your router → Sonos → Controller (Mac)

Do you have another iOS device capable to AirPlay to your Sonos system and see if the audio interruptions occur then?

If nothing from the above resolved the issues, I would recommend you to reach out to our Support team for live troubleshooting.

They have tools at their disposal to provide you with information and advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.
